Pioneer vsx 515 overload and shuts down what can i do to fix this problem.


hi,
First of all remove all the speaker connections from the amplifier. After that power the amplifier and check the overload (protect) show or not . if not, then any of the speaker is damaged or you have to check the impedence of your receiver and speakers. It will be written on the rear side of both receiver and speakers in ohms. PIONEER recommend to connect 8 ohms speakers in to this AV receiver. If you are using 6 ohms speakers you have to do some setting in the AV receiver.For that do the following

1. With the receiver in standby, press STANDBY/ON while holding down the SPEAKER IMPEDANCE button.( Each time you do this, you switch between the impedance settings: )


SP 6 OHM - Use this setting if your speakers are rated at 6 Ohms

SP 8 OHM - Use this setting if your speakers are rated at 8 Ohms or more


You are not able to connect speakers with impedence bellow 6 Ohms with this receiver. Becuse the AV receivers impedence range is 6 - 16 Ohms.
If then also it shows protect you have to check the amplifiers hardware.

AV receivers shows protect mode , when there is a hardware fault in side it. Its a warning that some thing is wrong.
Normally AV receivers show this when any of the output amplifier get some problem. there are six amplifiers in this AV receiver. May occur when the output diver transistors of any of the amplifier become shorted. if the output transistor get shorted this will lead to flow of current through the speakers. To prevent this there is a protection circuit for each channels. One combined output of this protection circuit is connected to the system control. when the any of the output amplifier fails, the protection circuit detects it and switch of the speaker and sent data to the system control. when the system control get this data it will give a warning to the customer through display that PROTECT.
You have to check the amplifier.
for that you need digital multimeter,soledring iron screwdrivers etc
open the amplifier , then power it on. connect the negative terminal of the multimeter any where in the chase( metal body of the amplifer). then connect the positive terminal to all the output transistors emitter pin one by one . the voltage should be bellow 0.5V. If any of the emitter of the transistor shows voltage more than 0.5V., then that amplifier stage is faulty. Remove the transistors and check it. if it is shot then replace with a new one.
after replacing the transistors do not power up the amplifier directly from the main. You have to put a bulb of 60 watts in serial.
You can do this easily remove the mains fuse. put the bulb in a holder. now you have to wire from the holder. connect one of it to the one end of the fuse holder and the other wire to the other end of the fuse holder. Why using a bulb is, if there is any further problem in the amplifier stage on which the transistors replaced, there is a possibility of the new transistor get damage. if we use a bulb in serial with its mains supply ,when any overload in the amplifier occur the bulb will drop the current, by lighting itself.
After connecting the bulb in serious power on the amplifier. watch the bulb. It should light for one or two second and go dim . if so check the display, is there is protect mode is on or not . if not and come back to normal operation ,then remove the power , remove the bulb insert fuse and check
connect the power and check.
If the bulb shows bright light then there is some component also faulty in the same amplifier. after removing the power you have to check again the amplifier stage of which the transistor is replaced, for any other faulty components.

How To Bi-Amp And Bi-Wire Speakers!


What is the difference between bi-wiring and bi-amping?
Bi-wiring is using the same power source (amplifier) but separately connecting that power source to a woofer and a midrange/tweeter on a speaker.

Bi-amping is using two separate power sources (amplifiers) and connecting one amplifier to a woofer and the other amplifier to a midrange/tweeter on a speaker.

How do I bi-wire?
Your speaker must have two separate positive and negative connections (one set for the woofer and one set for the midrange/tweeter). Connect one wire between the positive terminal on the amplifier/receiver the positive terminal on the speaker. Connect the other wire from the negative terminal on the amplifier/receiver to the corresponding negative terminal on the speaker. Remove the jumper straps connecting the two sets of speaker inputs. Repeat this process for the second set of terminals on the speaker, connecting them to the same positive and negative terminals on the receiver/amplifier. Repeat the steps for each speaker you wish to Bi-Wire, connecting them to the appropriate terminals on your receiver/amplifier.

How do I bi-amp?
Bi-amping is similar to bi-wiring, but involves separate amplifiers: one for the woofer and one for the midrange/tweeter. Passive bi-amping involves a direct hookup between each amplifier and the speaker terminals. True bi-amping involves hooking the preamp to an electronic crossover that replaces the passive crossover network in the speaker. The active crossover then connects to multiple power amplifiers.

Unable to receive optimum output. The bass is totally flat !


Hi, ok the Bose Acoustimass III system consists of two small cube speakers and one subwoofer unit called the Acoustimass bass module. If the subwoofer stops working, three points can be the cause of the failure. The Bose Acoustimass III is a passive system, meaning the speakers do not power themselves, but instead are connected to a receiver or amplifier. Thus, the amplifier, the speaker between the amplifier and the subwoofer, or the subwoofer itself could be the issue.

Things You'll Need:

* Amplifier
* Speaker cable
* Extra subwoofer


Instructions


Disconnect the speaker cable from the back of the Bose Accoustimass bass module and connect it to a subwoofer that is known to be working. If the subwoofer works, the bass module needs to be replaced.


Disconnect the speaker cable from the back of the receiver or amplifier you are using and from the back of the subwoofer in Step 1.


Connect a speaker cable that is known to be working between the back of the receiver or amplifier and the back of the Accoustimass module. If the module starts working, then the cable was the issue.


Disconnect the speaker cable from Step 3 from the back of the amplifier or receiver, then connect the cable to the subwoofer port on the back of an amplifier or receiver that is known to be working. If the subwoofer works, the receiver was the issue. If the subwoofer still does not work, verify that the speaker cable is in the subwoofer port of the receiver/amplifier and that the cable is connected securely to the subwoofer.

I was trying to find an owner's manual or picture of the rear panel of the sub, but had no luck. The subwoofer is a powered type - or "active" speaker. This means it has a built in amplifier. These active subs usually provide for one or both "low level" and "high level" inputs. Low level signals are usually carried by shielded coaxial cables and have RCA type plugs on the end. The low level is also called "line level". This is an un-amplified signal that might be heard on cheap earphones - but that's about it. It is similar to the output of a tape deck, DVD or phonograph. These signals require an amplifier to be heard. If you have a sub woofer output on your receiver or amplifier, you could run a patch cable between the low level input on the subwoofer and the subwoofer output of the amp or receiver. You receiver or amp may call this output "low frequency effects" or similar. The front and rear speakers would then connect directly to the receiver or amp's corresponding connections.

If you lack low level outputs on the amp or subwoofer, you'll need to run speaker wires from the amplifier or receiver's front left and right speaker output terminals to the subwoofer's high level input terminals. High level signals are speaker connections or amplified signals. These are typically connections that accept bare wire connections. The front speakers would then connect to the subwoofer's front left and right speaker output terminals. The rear speakers connect to the amplifier.

Just purchased SBHS100AE-K rear speakers to connect to my SC-BT100. I want to connect them wired rather than purchase the wireless transmitter, but I can't figure out how to connect the wired rear speakers...


This unit is not as flexible as traditional receivers are as far as speakers are concerned. Speakers are labeled and *must* be connected to the correct speaker terminals.

Upon reading the manual - it is quite apparent that the only provisions for rear surround speaker connections is <i>only</i> via the optional wireless transmitter / receiver hardware. The optional digital transmitter is connected via a proprietary plug on the rear of the SC-BT100. The optional receiver amplifies the received signal and passes it to the connected surround speakers. I would bet that there are no provisions for amplifying a surround L and R speaker channel inside the SC-BT100, and that it only provides a low level (like a "tape out") or un-amplified signal to the transmitter plug. Even if you were to manage to get the surround speaker connections made up there - you would not be able to hear anything from them - as there is no amplifier. The amplifier is contained in the wireless receiver, and is largely why it requires a connection to house current.

Unfortunately, I doubt you'll find a way to listen the surround channel audio from the SC-BT100 without the optional transmitter / receiver and the integrated amplifier.

Why don't we deal with the issues separately?

What are you trying to accomplish with speakers all around the house. Or did you mean around the ROOM?

You can't slave other amps off of this unit and have volume or source control at the receiver. It lacks any Preamp Outputs.

Tell us what you want to do, how things are connected (in detail) right now and maybe we can help you out.

It might also be helpful to know WHY you need to have multiple amps.

Receiver cannot recognize subwoofer


As I implied earlier, take a clue from the physical style of connectors for both parts of the subwoofer function in the old and new receivers:

RCA connections are for Line Level signal between components only.

The input (bare wire) at the speaker is for AMPLIFIED signal.

You can't just modify one to fit the other and expect magic to happen. Be glad you didn't do it the other way around and modify an amplified (speaker level) outout into a Line Level input. You likely would have smoked that component.

Your subwoofer is a passive speaker, that is, like any other speaker it needs an amplifier. Many subs are self-powered (amp built-in) and they would mate well with the RCA sub output of the receiver.

Get yourself an Active (self-amplified) Subwoofer and run UN-MODIFIED RCA cables to it, according to its instructions, from the Sub Out of the receiver. Or get an amplifier between your receiver and the sub you have.

You may connect an additional amplifier to the Rec Out or Line Out from your existing receiver.
Please note the Bose 901 equalizer can be used to connect to one amplifier only.
