Question about HP Presario C555nr Notebook

1 Answer

Resetting Bios We have a Compaq pressario C555NR laptop running windows vista basic. my girlfrind was using it and a black error screen came up and asked if she wanted to restart, which she did. After restart all that would come up is options for using bios, I tested the hard drive from the bios and found it to be no longer reading. My girlfriend changed the boot order because she thought thats why it wasnt working and made the hard drive first, and saved the settings and restarted the comp. Now nothing comes up on the screen... So my question is this: Is there a way to reset the bios to default not being able to access the menu... or will I be able to do something once I add a new hard drive?

Hi,

theres a couple of ways, you could try to solve this.

1:) remove the battery and power supply from the unit. and leave for 24 hours.

2:) find a repair or dismantling manual. locate the CMOS Battery. This is what stores The Date/Time settings et,c. ** Usually looks similar to a chrome watch/lithium battery** located on the motherboard.

3:) attempt to enter the systems bios, at startup. Pressing The F2/esc Or Delete Button. Set the boot sequence to first device CD/DVD Rom Drive. This will give you the chance to use a system restore CD, Or re-install windows.

Finally when you get your laptop up and running, i,d suggest installing Windows XP. Vista still has a lot of bugs and glitches.

Hi.

Try this >>>>

Power down your Compaq Presario F500 notebook computer. Remove the unit's internal battery from its housing compartment.
Use a screwdriver to unscrew and remove all of the screws from the bottom panel of your Compaq Presario F500. Use your hands to lift off the bottom panel, revealing the inside of the notebook computer.
Look for the CMOS/BIOS chip: It will be located in the center of your computer's motherboard, which is itself located in the center of the case.
Remove the small battery from its housing compartment on the CMOS/BIOS chip. Then, press and hold the "Power" button on the laptop's case for a few seconds. This will completely discharge all electricity from the device.
Replace the CMOS/BIOS' battery. Place the bottom panel of the notebook computer back on and screw it back into place. Place the Compaq Presario F500's battery back into its housing compartment and press the "Power" button to turn it on. Your CMOS/BIOS will now be completely reset.
Good luck and please let me know how you get on!!!!

Regards.

Black screen v6000 laptop "HELP Please"

It appears the hard disk has been wiped/formatted and does not have an operating system installed.
You need to get a Windows Vista installation CD and if the Windows label on the bottom of the laptop is still attached then this label has the product installation code.
Boot up with the Windows Vista installation CD to install the Vista operating software then you need to install the Presario device drivers.

You can download the device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Windows drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

My compaq pressario wont start up windows vista, it only appears a black screen with different commands

That is the boot option screen - if you can't get past it then Windows is totally corrupted and the only thing you can do is to reinstall it.

if resetting the bios does not work, you either got a nasty virus, or the hardware has an issue. my suggestion, if resetting bios is not the solution, backup your data and reinstall windows
