Hi,

If you see the same vertical line on the saved images / screen, then this confirms a bad LCD screen. This is an expensive repair as compare to the cost of the camera. However, if you only sees the vertical line on the live images / video's, then it is bad CCD sensor. This is really common. There were certain recalls by every manufacturer for the same. Check with the manufacturer if there is any recall or they could repair it with minimal cost.

Do you have it turned off? Is there a picture of a lightning bolt with a line through it? If so, press the button with the lightning bolt until the screen shows a lightning bolt and an "a". Also, do you have the camera set on a scene mode such as night? The flash won't go off in some scene modes.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

My understanding is that you have 2 laptops with the same problem, if that is the case, you need to replace the lcd. When you have lines on lcd's, that is a sign of a bad lcd.

There is a possibility that the problem lies on the "Doubler" circuit board with this set, especially if the darkness looks like a smear in the picture during bright scenes like a hockey game.
