The Power on Password is stored on the 24RF08 EEPROM chip and there are no back door passwords available. You can remove this password but you need some electronic skills to do this. Please click on this link for information on how to remove this password :- http://sodoityourself.com/hacking-ibm-thinkpad-bios-password/
The IBM Thinkpad has a very strong security system.
you are seeing a lock symbol when booting then somebody has set the supervisor
password. If you can't remember it or guess it (try "password", "admin", "pass", etc)
then you need to find the person that set the supervisor password.
the supervisor password is set the T41 is very well protected and it
can't be reset by removing the laptop battery or CMOS battery.
is a way to read the password from the protection chip but this is very
complicated and requires taking the laptop apart and building your own
The BIOS password is configured from the BIOS setup and this password is stored on an EEPROM chip. There is no backdoor password available and IBM/Lenevo support say the motherboard needs to be replaced. Also removing the BIOS battery to discharge the BIOS and reset it to the default settings will not allow you to bypass this password.
There is a way to crack the password but you need electronic skills, electronic components and several programs plus a working computer to carry out this task.
For details on how to do this check this WEB site. http://sodoityourself.com/hacking-ibm-thinkpad-bios-password/
T30- no sound altho SOUND MAX drivers installed...
Try Control Panel, Sounds, Sounds (tab), choose a sound toward bottom of list. press the BLACK PLAY ARROW...if BLACK SQUARE appears at the arrow, your sound is installed $\& probably OK...
NOW,,,insert a musiv CD. then press the VOLUME BUTTON, (2nd one over from the THINKPAD button, & you should get sound aplenty !!
You will have to remember it. IBM puts a security chip on the motherboard, the bios password is burned into this, and there is no way around it. There are a few places that will replace the chip, but they are very expensive. The only other way is to replace the motherboard. I've found that replacing the motherboard is cheaper than having the chip replaced, so, if possible, remember the password.
