    First solution did not work.

I am presently using a PC keyboard so I do not have Option or command keys.

What should I use instead? Sorry about the difficulty.

Press the power button on your Macintosh computer, and select "Shut Down" to power off the device. Insert the power adapter into an available electrical outlet, and insert the opposite end of the power cable into the power port on the back of your HP monitor.
  • 2Insert the DVI cable into the DVI port on the back of the HP monitor, which is the second to the last port on the monitor. Insert the opposite end of the DVI cable into the DVI port on the back of your Macintosh desktop, or the side of your Macintosh laptop. The DVI port can be found by matching the symbol on the cable with the symbol located next to the computer's port.
  • 3Press the power button on the front of your monitor, and press the power button on your desktop or laptop.

  • Although HP are not configured for use with Macintosh computers by default, recent Macintosh models are capable of using the monitor at 60Hz, according to the official Hewlett Packard site.

Are you using the proper adapter? If so thy this. Turn your Mac Mini on with no monitor attached and wait 5 minutes. Plug the VGA/DVI adapter into the Mac Mini and then connect to the HP monitor. Turn the monitor on and wait for the Mini to auto detect. If that does not work try this curtorsey of Apple.com

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.

For the Command key on a Windows keyboard use Control. The Option key on windows is the Windows key. So you will do it as such on a Windows keyboard.

      1. Shut down the computer.

      2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Control, Option (Windows), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

      3. Turn on the computer.

      4. Press and hold the Control -Windows -P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

      5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

      6. Release the keys.

    try to reset your phone

To reset i Phone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. During this time, a red "power off" slider may appear and the screen may go black, but do not release Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.

I have an RCA L32HD31 HDTV LCD TV. I am trying to hook up a mac mini into the PC input in the back through VGA. I have a DVI to VGA adapter from the back of the mac mini to the tv and the tv responds with...

Be sure to update all the drivers! I have installed many set-ups like that and most often, I need to do all the updates to make everything work. Sometimes HDMI is even more troublesome. If you go that route, be sure to purchase it at a place that allows returns on such items. Best Buy and Staples, are a couple that are usually pretty good about that. You might want to ask a "Geek" at Best buy and see if they have further input on this.

Whenever I turn on my desktop the screen just stays black.

It appears that your power supply is good, the startup chime says that the system board has passed self diagnostics. If you have a black screen then the problem is either the video card or the screen itself. Unfortunately it is very difficult to tell which one. You might try to use an external monitor. If it works, then the problem is with the LCD.
To use an external monitor you need a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter, or a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter if your display will use a DVI connection. Either adapter is available at any Apple retailer. The connector on the back of your Imac is next to the ethernet connector, and should be the last in the row.
