Question about Dewalt DC616 16g Cordless 18v Straight Finish Nailer

1 Answer

My DC616 a straight 16 gauge DeWalt finish nailer tries to drive 2 nails when it fires 1 out of about every 5 to 10 shots. I am a finish contractor and have used this nailer for about 6 years. I was looking at it, and a schematic but cant decide which parts need replaced. I assume that some nose parts have just worn out but replacing all of the possibilities would cost $100 can you tell me specifically which ones? I actually have 2 of these and they are both doing this more and more.

Argh...

Had the same problem, but only after about 4-5 nails. Once it jammed 4 times in a row - very frustrating.

I read the manual, took the unit apart, checked the driver - it was straight. I took a file and filed the back end of the driver down a bit so it would miss the second nail and so far it seems to be working famously.

Great unit...

look at the end where the nail comes out . it should be flush across , if the plunger is sticking out then push it back in with a flat screw driver and try again.soft wood quite often lets the nail shoot to far

The bestthing to do is get you a good screw driver and just sit down and start prying it out of there, will take a minute or 2 but will eventually come out

The pin on my Dewalt dc616 cordless finish nail gun is ceasing up. How can i lubricate it? can i spray silicon into the nose of the gun?

Hello, W/D here.

The better way is to disconnect the air line from the gun, and place several drops of light oil in the gun while holding the trigger down. Oil daily. Then, re-connect the hose, and fire a few nails into scrap wood.
Another trick is to spray your nails with WD-40 before you load them into the gun.
Best regards, --W/D--

Dewalt cordless nail gun fires but doesn't seem to feed the nails very well, alot of misfires.

Try another brand of nails -- maybe your gun doesn't like those. Also, blow any dirt out of the nail magazine.

Nail gun wont fire

First - the air pressure has to be high enough - check the regulator on the tank to make sure it is delivering in excess of 60-70 psi (which I am sure you have already done).

If you have dry fired these guns (i.e. shot them off with no nails in them while you were lubricating them maybe) the mechanism inside could be damaged. I had that happen to one of my nailers (same brand). That was when I learned not to dry fire them...

Since both of them are not working though I would be more inclined to look at the air supply first.

Paslode im250 f-16 only able to drive 2 nails .

Bad Fuel cell!!! New cyliders now have expire date on bottom of cannister. If old will not fire properly. Put new fuel cell in should be fine.

Dewalt dc618 nailer is not firing

I have both the DC616 and 618 and have used them sucessfully for about three years. Two main things go wrong. There is a drive belt that breaks (drives the spool that give the energy to drive in the nails), second are two small rubber bands on either side of the drive head that break. The bands can be accessed by taking off the front silver cover, the drive belt is access by spliting the case. Make sure you are using the correct nails or the drive pin may become bent and will jamb repeatedly. Hope that helps!

if the nailer is for 18 guage nail use 18 gauge nail if not 16 guage will jam. if it is not the problem is the profile return asyy may jam in side.
