Define/explain "wont connect".

Are you trying to use an Ethernet cable to connect the two devices? If so, try a different cable, to rule-out a "bad" cable.

Do you have any software like "Norton Internet Security" on the HP? It is notorious for "blocking" attempts to connect to "unknown" networks.

Does your desktop computer have a wireless networking adapter that you are trying to configure/use?

Will any other computer, either via Ethernet cable or wirelessly, connect to the NetGear router? If not, then maybe the NetGear is the problem.

Any error-messages when you try to "connect" ??
Exact wording?

Not able to connect to my netgear login. I clicked on a button and now it wont connect. Any Suggestions

You need to configure the Netgear wireless router first.
Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on your computer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the default admin password and configure the wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

I would recommend checking that your laptop is set up on the access list in the router. Login to the router and check the settings.

I have MacBook and it is not recognizing the ethernet connection

1. First check the light status of the XE102.
2. Then hard reset the Xe102
3. As this is a plug n play device all the lights should come on.
4. In case if the lights wont come on.
5. Check the powerline ..
6. And if that will not work , get a new adapter or replace the existing one from netgear ( 1-888-638-4327 )

Can not connect to internet through wireless router...

First thing as ur able to access internet using ethernet cable, that indicates that ur router is fine. Now, also as u mentioned signal strength is excellent still its not getting connected, what u have to do is : click start then run type cmd and press enter it will open up command prompt or if ur using vista then click start >all programs> click accessories>right click command prompt>click run as administrator it will take u to the command prompt screen there  type ipconfig and press enter and check what is the ip address if ip address is like 169.254.----- then that it indicates that ur comp and router are not able to communicate wirelessly u have o set up a new wireless network. and if ip address is like 192.168.0.4 and default gateway is 192.168.0.2 then u don't require to setup a new connection  now in any case run this following command on the same command prompt window netsh int ip reset reset.log and press enter and then run this command netsh winsock reset catalog press enter it will ask u to restart and then restart the laptop after that try connecting if still not able to access internet then connect ethernet cable open internet explorer type in this address 192.168.0.1 and press enter it will ask for username and password that is admin and password respectively and it will take u to netgear settings  and from there setup a new wireles network......... try this if not able to do so revert to me.

Prob with dg834gv3

Get Adobe reader if you do not have it
Click the Get Adobe Reader button as this link
http://www.adobe.com

First as to the accessing the router configuration -- lets try by wire -- there is less likelyhood of a problem.

Connect an ethernet cable between the computer and one of the LAN ports (block of 4 side by side and NOT the separate WAN port). Attempt to access the configuration as indicated at http://192.168.0.1. You do not need to hook up the phone line until indicated later if you want to wait.

Instructions are also in this link
ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/DG834Gv3_ENU_SM_1FEB06.pdf

Once you have access to the router's configuration you need to configure it for your specific ISP the following link from Netgear may help determine your ISP's requirements
http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/N100472.asp

Now you need to hook up the phone line to test the configuration

Now if this has been completed successfully you should have wired access to the internet.

Assuring your wireless adapter is turned on (built-ins have a switch to turn them on). See if your wireless has access to the internet. If so good -- consider the following paragraph on security. If not please add a comment to this and explain the issue. Also attempt the ping above and report if the ping works from the laptop,

Wireless security -- your wireless signal reaches outside your home or apartment, you should consider adding WEP or WPA encryption to the wireless network to prevent access by others not desired or intended by you. This is achieved by entering a common passphrase into the router AND the wireless adapter configuration on the computer to use the network. If necessary please request additional instructions for this. Identification of the wireless adapter or computer with built-in adapter may be required to assist with this.

If you require assistance with any of the above please ask by adding a comment to this issue.
