The contactor for the compressor may be stuck. Remove the outside shell and locate the contactor to see if this is the case. The contactor may be located in a metal box once you remove the units cover. You may be able to just tap it and get it unstuck but it would probably be best to replace it.

The freezer doesn't freeze that good but the refridgerator does work.

It is possible that the defrost cycle is not working. Look for signs of ice built up in the freezer compartment. The excess ice prohibits the air circulation.

26128165-5xkmzur1kbcrfneaoxy43scu-3-0.jpg If defrost cycle appears working and compressor runs continuously it is probable that the Freon is low or compressor is failing.

the usual tell is the refrigerator gets colder than usual and the freezer does not get as cold. The situation is that the compressor runs until the freezer temperature is satisfied. If the compressor can not achieve the cold temperature of the freezer it will run continuously.

When the unit runs continuously the bi-pass of air is increased bringing more cold air into the refrigerator portion of the unit.

Why does compressor continue running, even with dehumidifier turned off?

Hello Bernard, thank you for your post!
I see that you are experiencing an issue with the Frigidaire dehumidifier, FAD704DWD, compressor consistently being on. This could be a possible issue with your control panel or sensor. Since it could be any one of these underlying issues I would suggest contacting the manufacturer for further assistance. Hopefully this information is helpful to you. -Matt

My 2003 VW Jetta air conditioning is cooling for a few minutes and sometimes longer and then it stops cooling. The fan continues to run but the compressor apparently stops running.

Have you watched the compressor in action? The compressor is driven by the fanbelt which turns a pulley on the compressor shaft, but there's an electric clutch that disengages the pulley from the friction plate attached to the compressor shaft. You should hear a click when the clutch engages and disengages. Do you hear that? Can you see the friction plate turning with the pulley or does it stay in one position while the pulley turns? If if works for a bit then stops turning, you may have a damaged friction plate such that it doesn't engage with the pulley. Take your car to an auto A/C specialist and let them examine it. It's also possible that the relay that sends 12 volts to the clutch is intermittent and needs to be replaced.

Frigidaire airconditioner compressor keeps running after turning the unit off

Thanks for the post, friend!

I understand that the compressor continues to run after your Frigidaire air conditioner has turned off. From that information it sounds like there could be a possible issue within your control panel or relay. I would recommend a reset on the appliance, to perform a reset unplug the power cord you will see a test button, push that button and you will hear a click. You would then press the reset button you will hear a click again signifying that the appliance has been reset. Then plug your air conditioner back in. If you continue to have an issue with your compressor I would seek assistance from a professional. Hope this is helpful. -Matt

My viking under counter refrigerator freezes all liquid

Is it a digital temp. display? Does this show a low temp? It should show +/-34 degrees. Listen if the compressor runs continuously. It should run for a while and then switch off. When you change the temp setting, as you turn it down, the compressor should stop. If it runs continuously then the likely cause is a stuck/faulty thermostat. Before replacing this, switch off and leave open until unit is at room temp. Then switch on again and monitor. If the thermostat if faulty and the compressor runs continuously you can damage it by overheating. The compressor will run for a good few hours after restart, until set temp. is reached and then switch off automatically. Good luck!

Frigidaire model FFU17M8CW1. Top shelf iced up and low temp light came on. Compressor ran continuously. Emptied the freezer and defrosted it. Not for very long...just long enough for the ice to melt, wiped...

The shelves are the evaporator in your freezer. It is normal for the shelves to have frost on them. The more moisture in the unit the more frost you have till you have to defrost it like you did. The fact that only one of your shelves is frosting indicates that the system is low on freon. Must have a leak which requires a qualified havc to find and repair. The temp in a freezer should be between 0 and 10 degrees. At this point your compressor is keeping it cold only by running all the time. As more freon leaks out the temp will rise. This may occur slowly or at a quicker rate depending on the amount leaking.

The condenser fan runs, 30 second later the compresor kicks in then 20 seconds later the compressor turns off while the condenser fan is still running

You have either a bad overload/relay or a bad compressor . Remove the o/r from the compressor and make sure there is continuity between all 3 terminals . Also check from the terminals to a copper line to make sure there is no continuity . If ok , then replace the o/r and check the amps from a wire to the compressor . If high amps ( 2.7 or higher ) then compressor may not have long left .

"Help" Missing refrigerator door sensor & compressor is continuously running..

could be, since if the computer senses that the doors are open, then he would turn the compressor continuously in order to compensate for the losses of an open door refrigerator.

but with this kind of alarm, im sure it should have turn the refrigerator off if it has been sensing that the doors are open for the past 48 hours.

another thing to consider is that since it is second hand, it could have been repaired and things done to it for the compressor to run continuous.

Will run and cool until the thermostat turns it off and will not start back up. Inside fan continues to run. Compressor is completely dead.

Dear jack289,
The thermostat is not working properly. When thermostat cutsoff the compressor Please turn the thermostat knob to higher setting if compressor starts working then please change the thermostat. The fan will run continuously since only the compressor is controlled by the themostat.

Motor never turns itself off

If by motor you mean the compressor itself then no, it should not run all the time. The compressor should run until the thermostat senses the temp. is at where you set it then turns off the compressor. A couple of possible things... if the unit has a leak in the refrigerant then it may run almost continuously since it can barely reach the cold setting you have selected. Or the temp. sensor thermostat may be bad and the unit doesn't know to turn off. There is also a defrost cycle that happens about every 12 hours for a few minutes (depending on make/model on how it works) but that should also turn off the compressor and fans until the defrost cycle is completed. Basically it should turn off when the temp. setpoint is reached or when it's in the defrost cycle.
