Fabric softner build up in recepticle, and black mold forming

I have a 2006 Ultimate Care II Washing Machine. Recently I've noticed a build up of fabric softner in the plastic recepticle. I removed this recepticle, thinking I could clean the gunk out, but happened to notice black and white mold growing in the plastic agitator stem. I've called whirlpool 1800, who advised a service call. What do you think? Have you heard of this type of problem before? Please advise--Kim

The build up is always going to be there as long as your using softener. The way to beat this is 1.add the softener directly into the tub before last rinse.2.Dillute it with water.3.Stop using softener and this cant ever occur./// The fabric softeners brand may make a difference, try another brand .If its watered down its less sticky.

Fabric softener leaking from bottom of washing machine

One possible cause.
Someone is pouring fabric softener in the washer's Bleach bezel.
Causing the bezel to become clogged and then overflow.

Hello,

By grasping just the fabric softner dispenser and wiggling it from side to side while pulling up the softner dispenser will come out to be cleaned.

How do i disassemble the fabric softener dispenser? already popped off of agitator

This softener cup doesn,t come apart. The easiest way to clean it is to throw it in the wash cycle with rags and hot water. Then from here on use less softner . Mix it 50/50 with water.

Same deal - I have to soak up all the residual water in the softener dispenser between washes. (The detergent and bleach compartments are fine).

With the machine off and empty, fill the softner bin with water only. Does the water level go down or stay the same.
