Question about Nikon COOLPIX P90 Digital Camera

1 Answer

All the pictures that I take on my Nikon P90 camera have darkened (black) corners on the upper left and right. This ruins all the pictures that I take. Otherwise, it works fine. What is going on?

I have read that CCDs can become slightly damaged when certain cameras are aimed directly at the sun, but I can't recall the make, but I do remember it was a high end camera, such as this one. The other thing I'm wondering is if a ribbon connector isn't slightly loose, and not allowing certain CCD areas. I can't imagine any physical part of the lens assembly affecting the incoming image, but stranger things have happened.
Personally, I would run the camera and some printed pictures in to a reputable camera repair shop to see what they think. To further assault this problem, I would contact Nikon support and see what they say. Problems this tricky, that are rare and seldom, need more than one opinion, in my estimation. Here is Nikon support:

Wish I had a definitive answer for you, but good luck, hope this helps, and thanks for using FixYa.

Too much brightness when using s6800

I do not know the S6800 model specifically however, nikon cameras all generally work in the same way. Somewhere on your camera, probably a button or in the menus, there is an exposure compensation setting. The symbol Nikon uses for the button is a "+/-" enclosed in a circle (often half black on white/white on black printing). Press the button and you will either see a zero, a positive or negative number or a a scale with zero in the center with positive numbers to the right and negative numbers to the left.
If the exposure compensation is not at zero, set it to zero. Your exposures should now be correct. If it is already at zero, set it to a negative number to reduce exposure and darken the picture and to a positive number to increase exposure and lighten the picture. Let me know if this solved your problem.

Why do pictures taken have a black, curved area in top corners of image unless I zoom in?

That's because the shutter is damaged and needs repair, You are seeing it in your photos when using the wide end of the Zoom.

Unable to get sharp pictures, poor focus with P90

There is a focusing issue with your lens focusing motor or electronics controlling it. Unless it is a very expensive camera it may not be cost effective for repair.

Nikon Coolpix p80 blacked out, rounded corners

Have you attached some sort of lens shade to the front of the lens? The vibration might have something to do with the shake reduction system but I can't be sure. It certainly shouldn't vibrate heavily. You might get a better answer if you e-mail the tech guys at the support section of the Nikon website.

I have a Nikon coolpix s4 with the same problem

It is probably the "hood" whenever you shoot a "wide" shot. The black corner should not show up in telephoto pix..

Remove the hood when taking wide shots.
It is good to use a hood to avoid flares from the side, but that may be rare anyway...

ok?
