Question about Garmin nuvi 255W GPS Receiver

1 Answer

I could not get the Garmin to accept an intersection of interstate highways. Such as I-71 & I-480. How does one enter Interstate highways? I tried every form I could think of.

Don't use the letter 'I' for Interstate, just enter the number or use Route 71, route 480. Make sure you have updated maps.

Directions never include interstates or major highways

Make sure you have the preference set to the fastest route. If that doesn't do it, make sure you don't have interstate avoidence marked.

Gives numbers instead of names on main rds and highways

The Garmins are designed to read the highway or interstate numbers instead of names. This is because on the markers on the side of the road, they are labeled by numbers. Here in NY it calls the Long Island Expressway I-495, the Clearview I-295, etc. If the unit is speaking the names of surface streets, it is working as it was built to.
