Ok, so it may be old, but after a crash I re'installed all drivers..or thought I had until I came to use Wireless Lan. it appears that the chipset is installed but no drivers....I visited the Maxdata site and downloaded both the drvers there for wireless Lan(8 and 9) niether of them work! Can anyone help please..... not too technical if possible.. I'm just a basics kind of person... Thanks

It appears that there isn't an external switch to turn the WLAN off on the Everex NC1500 laptop (click here for the full manual). Here is a link showing you how to disable and enable WLAN card in WinXP (click here) if this is what you are trying to accomplish.
According to the manual (if your wireless isn't working) you must first install the WLAN driver before using the wireless connection.
"Wireless LAN module is similar to LAN
module. You need to install software driver before using it. Please refer to
Appendix B on how to install the driver."

Please try to check if you sound card driver is properly installed in your saystem and also try to check if your driver on audio card can support the currentl platform Operating system you are using now. Then if worst comes then reinstall your audio driver using the driver of your laptop if you are using onboard audio card.
The dlinks have a tendency to reset to factory settings when you do a firmware upgrade. Connect to the router using a wired connection or using another computer, confirm the settings are what you want, not the defaults. NEVER use the default wireless name (in this case: dlink), always change it to something nobody around you is using!
