Question about Maytag Performa PAV3200

Maytag Washer PAV2300

I read your post on siphoning and hope you can help. My washer has intermittantly had the problem of continually draining, at times I could change water level to med and it would actually fill. It became more frequent, after searching I the web I checked the hose and it was attached to the drain pipe real tight. We pulled it out and reattached it loosely, ran the washer, it cycled thru everything fine but now there was water on the floor. We snaked the drain pipe and there was no clog. My husband thinks the prob is the timer switch. A few weeks ago our daughter turned the knob the wrong way. Any help or ideas? The washer is only a little over a yr old. We live in a small town and it's two weeks to get a repairman.

Was the water coming from the drain line, or the washer? A timer switch wouldn't cause the drain line to overflow. If the timer were defective, the washer would not advance properly, get stuck on a cycle, or not run at all. I may be wrong, but I haven't seen a timer that causes an overflow. The water level is controlled by a pressure switch that shuts the water inlet valves off after the water reaches the reqiuired level. If you click on the link below, I have a posting explaining the minimum requirements for washing machine installations. See if your installation meets these basic requirements.

The drain line needs to be sufficient enough to allow 17 gallons per minute of water to drain properly. You might still have a slow drain issue somewhere further down the line causing the drain to back up. In addition, if the drain hose was fitting tightly in the standpipe, this tells me that the diameter of the pipe may also be too small. this may also contribute to slow drain problems.

Please read the post and let me know what you decide. I don't think the appliance repairman is in order, maybe a plumber(?). I hope this helps you. Post back if you have further questions/concerns.

Washer continuously fills

Not sure if you mean that it fills all the time and overflows or you mean that it just always fills and never has enough water.
The first problem would refer to a faulty water level switch - need to replace.
The second would be that the washer drains as it fills - if the drain hose is lower than the washer, inspect the anti-siphon valve.

My maytag washer is not holding the water and it drains it before it washes. I tried it at different water levels and it kept on draining the water every time I start it.

Check and make sure your drain from the washer is not pushed to far down in to the WALL DRAIN PIPE Because if it is the water will SIPHON out faster than you can fill.. Pipe should only be down about 6 inches in to drain and secured... Hope this Helps

My Maytag Top Loader will only fill with water up to 3 inches then it continues to drain while the water is coming in. How can I fix this myself?

You may have a condition known as "siphoning". This is usually caused by the drain hose not being high enough off the floor, or not having a proper air gap at the standpipe in order to drain properly. This creates a suction and the washer will constantly drain (siphon) as it tries to fill. The following link explains:

In the majority of the cases, this problem is attributed to improper installation, rather than an actual problem with the washer. If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Clothes still very wet after spin

Common problem if drain tube goes to laundry tub. Tub drain is slow, so water is siphoned back into washer at end of cycle.
Other solutions: Partial blockage of drain tube before or at water pump. Take off front washer panel, exposing pump and disconnect hoses. Remove obstructions and re-assemble.

Check to make sure your drain hose has a loop at least as high as washer top.  If the drain hose is not looped higher than tub water will continue to drain and it won't stop filling.  If it doesn'y reach the correct fill level it won't agitate.
