Tough question to answer unless this is a project car for the off season. Buy a donor car that has a very good body and a wated engine and swap out the parts. To perform welding is extreamly hard for a do it your selfer. Stainless steel in fact welders hate to weld for its toxic as hell

  • NOVAC NOURY Sep 07, 2010

YOUR SOLUTION WAS IDENTICAL TO MY ALTERNITIVE ..GET A SECOND CAR FOR PARTS
I DONT THINK I CAN EASILY GET A DONOR CAR.....SO THAT MEANS ...I WILL HAVE TO BUY A 1987 LINCOLN WITH SIEZED ENGINE/TRANNY PROBLEM..THAN TOW TO THE REPAR SHOP DOING THE RELPACMENT OF DOOR POST BY REMOVING DOOR POST FROM SEIZED ENGINE CAR..AND WELDING DOOR POST TO MY CAR..

AND THEN SELL FRAME/ENGINE/TRANNY PARTS (THAT I AM NOT USING ) ON LINE...

THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THAT ALTERNITIVE IS I HAVE TO NOW FIND A SHOP THAT WILL WORK WITH ME AS THEY WILL HAVE 2 CAR SPACES TAKING UP ROOM IN THEIRS SHOP.
SO I WOULD,HAVE TO FIND A SHOP THAT HAS A LARGE OUT DOOR HOLDING AREA..
OR A SHOP THAT WILL REOMVE THE PART NEED REAL FAST AND ALLOW ME TO RESELL THE REMAINGING ENGINE/TRANSEMISSION .FRAME TO AJUNK YARD..

My 1991 Lincoln town car sat for awhile. Now when driving smell a burning electrical smell and when braking it pulls to the left. Any idea what the problem is?

You have a lot of rust on all your brake components

You will need to completely strip all 4 brakes & remove
all rust and lube necessary parts

Don't misunderstand my point here

You do not necessarily need new rotors or brake pads

You may want to however, replace the flexible rubber
brake hoses, as they may have collapsed inside and
your brakes do not release, thus the brake pad smell

Also you could have rusted and frozen caliper pistons

The rust, the flex hoses & possibly the calipers, are your
problems, and the cause of the bakes not releasing

The driver side door has started to hang down want to make it work properly and get the door to work properly

New door hinges are a dealer item, get another complete set of hinges for that door from a dealer and have them installed and the door aligned at an autobody shop. Don't let the dealer put them in for you. If the door is rusted away where the hinges attach, get another door from a junkyard or off craiglist. If the car itself is rusted away where the hinges attach, have the door welded shut and enter the car per dukes of hazzard or use the passenger side door.

What would you do when your 1996 lincoln town car doors won't lock with the key. And the trunk won't open.

How can a lock not lock or unlock with a physical key? Maybe the cylinders are frozen? Try squirting a little oil into the locks.
1996 Town Cars have keys and keyless entry. The physical keys are two, an ignition key and a door key. You can't use the door key in the ignition, nor the ignition key in the door. They aren't interchangeable.
The default key code for keyless entry is posted on the right trunk hinge, inside the trunk.

Brake lines rusted under car for back brakes, is there 2 lines going to the rear. brake line busted

You do have 2 lines to the rear on the Lincoln. Both should be replaced if they are rusted out. After replacing the lines will need to be bled of all the air.

Rust behind both front door (top only) hinges

If there is rust, the bolts are loose and the hinge is working (moving) causing bare metal exposure to rusting. Tighten the bolts, iit will be ok.
