We have set a laptop wireless using bt but I cannot remember the security code I have tried putting in the code in the 192.168..1.1 in the address bar but not getting anywhere what am I doing wrong

Hi Friend,

Please disable the firewall of your system and then try to open 192.168.1.1. If that doesnot work, then reset the router. Push and hold the reset button for 30 seconds and turn it off. Switch on the router and ensure that the computer is connected with an ethernet cable with the router to configure it.

Type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter. Lave the Username blank and type admin in Password. In the router setup page click Wireless and Select the wirless mode as manual and enter the settings as required.

Click Wireless Security and set the Security as per you requirements

Lost Ativa Wireless G router manual dont know how to set up please help

You can get the user manual on the manufacturers website
Here is:
http://www.ativasupport.com/product/?pid=AWGR54

All you need is :
1. Open up IE or Firefox. On address bar, type in "192.168.2.1" and click enter.
2. Ativa wireless setup should load up.
On top right, there is a Log In button.
If this is your first time login in, leave it blank and submit.

3. Check up on the following: a) Internet WAN > Connection Type > select Dynamic; b) Wireless > Channel and SSID > Disable ESSID Broadcast, also set wireless channel to AUTO; b) Wireless > Security > set up your security, use wep or wap or others

4. Now for the most important thing.
Click Firewall, and DISABLE IT!! By doing this, it said that you'll will be vulnerable to hacker etc...blah blah, but with security keys to access wireless and virus program/window firewall should be enough to make you stop worrying. Apply changes, then the thing restarts and you are good to go.

ok try this and let me know.
Any other help or clarification you are most welcome.
Cheers
Uttam

Hi, I have a netgear DG834G version 3 wireless router. I want to buy a wireless printer, will this router support one? If so, have you any opinions on the best buy? Thanks

any wireless printer should and will work with this modem-router as long as it's wireless settings are configured right, if you already have a computer connecting to this router wirelessly then that means the wireless functionality of your router is working. you just have to know the wireless settings of your router such as the SSID or the wireless network name, the type of wireless security and the wireless security key or encryption key.. once you have a wireless computer and it wireless feature is enabled it will automatically detect all networks name or SSIDs around the area, that includes your modem-router's and neighbors'.. when you try to connect to the SSID of your modem-router you will be asked for an encryption key or a password to be able to connect.. that will only happen if you have enabled a wireless security on your modem-router.

Cant connect to secured wireless network...

Hi Grant,

If it says aquiring acquiring network connection while you connect to the wireless network it means that something is conflicting with the wirelss network, so first you have to check wether 2 wireless utiliies ( windows wireless utility and dell utility )are active at the same moment, if yes disable one of them and try again, still if it does not connect, disable antivirus and firewall and check if that fixes the issue, still if it does not work then try changing the security type on the routers page, basically this should work out and still if u have any issue, please reply to this msg for further troubleshooting steps....

And even if it gets resolved please reply once.

Thanks and Regards

I cant get my linksys router to work

After you logon to the router, click the 'Security' tab, then click the 'Firewall' tab and in those settings you can enable/disable the firewall, but your best bet is to setup exceptions in the firewall to allow certain traffic and deny what you dont want... But thats a subject all onto its own...lol

My linksys router wont work

I take it that this is a Wireless-G Broadband router and you know what the risks are of turning off the firewall on this device...

What are you trying to do and why do you believe disabling the router's firewall is best?

If you must know then try this:

Open your Web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar.
Do not type www. Only type 192.168.1.1 (this is the router's IP address and will allow you to log into it's settings menus).

Enter your user name and password (default is admin).
After the page opens, click the Security tab.

Click disable firewall and save changes.

Hope this helps...

Problems with wireless connection

does your network has a security enabled on it?
It's possible that you did not supplied the right security key for on your computer when you tried to connect to your wireless network, that is if its secured. You can also check the firewall on your computer, try to disable them.

Firewall/security

Most in home routers come with a disk to install ( more often than not norton ), If it didnt come with a disk you should go into the setting control of the router by typing in the ip adress in your IE bar, and clicking on the tab of security/firewall and putting them to the correct specifications. If that still fails for you, I would suggest going to the web and downloading a new driver for the router. Hope it helps!
