Is this connected to an ATI video card?
Is this the second monitor in a dual monitor setup?
Is this connected via the DVI or VGA cable?

  • pmintz Sep 06, 2010

I don't know the video card, it connects to the pci (I can't remember the standard bus initials). It is connected by VGA and is the sole monitor on the computer.

Thank you for answering those questions. That usually indicates it has a bad power inverter. From what i can tell, that monitor is a few years old. You can attempt to find an inverter online to replace it yourself (usually about $50 if you can find one) since its no longer covered under warranty, or put that money into getting a new monitor.

pmintz, Open monitor, inspect switch-mode-power-supply board for swollen aluminum "can" electrolytic filter capacitors that may need to be unsoldered and replaced with new ones. If swollen and leaky they may be the cause of SMPS going into "shut-down-immediate" mode!! Replacing some capacitors ($6) may be all that is needed to keep this "working" unit from going into shut-down. Then do some research in the Fixya Profiles of "budmrtn" "buddymc" and "12fixlouie" (me) for more info and visit YOUTUBE for video clip of how to do capacitor replacement. Keep us informed of your repair effort by doing additional comments here on fixya. Please tell us the manufacturer's name on the side of the capacitors in your unit. 12fixlouie

Soyo monitor MT-NI-DYLM1998 "out of range."

Your windows 7 screen resolution is set too high and your display doesn't support it. There are 3 possible solutions to this problem:
1. Press F8 during startup and choose "Enable row-resolution video"
2. Press F8 during startup and choose "Safe mode" and change screen resolution there, then reboot.
3. You can always use another display (if you have one) to set screen resolution to lower value.

medproducts, Nothing new here. Check internal "switch-mode-power-supply board" only after devoting about 1-2 hours of viewing "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair" video clips at YOUTUBE!!! Then you will need to make big decision!!! Let me and all who read this know what your plan of action is.
