Question about Noritz 8.4 Gallon Residential Tankless Water Heater - N-084M

1 Answer

I have had this noritz for about 5 months. It has had some trouble coming on lately and the water is not as hot as it should be. I ran the water right out the bottom of the machine and it does not come out very fast at all. It isn't plugged because when it wont light it gushes out. I realize it slows down when it heats the water, but this isn't the case. Turned way up it hardly trickles out. It has been pretty inconsistent on lighting for a while, but just noticed the lack of water recently.

It sounds like you have issues with scale building up in your heater. I would recommend performing a descale to remove scale deposits. Sometimes the scale blocks water flow through the heat excahanger; you may need to have a servicer dig the scale out of your main servo and mixing cylinder before performing a descale.

Noritz NR98-DVC tankless water heater won't give hot water thru a single valve fixture. Gives us all the hot water we want on a double handled fixture. Any suggestions on what to do?

Replace single-handled faucet cartridge, and see if hot flows to that faucet again.

Exposing tankless to hard water causes reduced efficiency within a few months, and can cause Total failure of parts within two years.
Do not expose tankless to more than 11 grains hard water.

After water to house was shut off, my Noritz tankless water heater is on but won't produce hot water. On the unit, the light indicating that the burner is on stays off now.

you probably had debris get into the filter or flow sensor when the water was turned back on. I'd recommend checking the filter first and if that doesn't work, call Noritz Tech support to help you with the flow sensor.

the filter is a black plug located on the cold water line (labeled cold on the bottom of the unit). It points torwards the left.

Sometimes the hot water just goes cold

Here are a couple things to look for:

1) flashing burner light - a flashing burner light indicates the unit is getting an error code
common error codes:
A. continuous flashing - ignition failure or abnormal combustion; look for visible water in the machine indicating a leak, check gas pressure, debris or buildup on flame rod/igniter plug, or clean unit with compressed air
B. 3 flashes - error 16, abnormal outlet water temperature; typically this code indicates you'll need to descale you unit
C. 4 or 5 flashes - exotic error codes; you should contact Noritz technical support to deal with these codes

2. If there is no flashing code, try increasing the hot water flow. In the summer time you typically use less hot water; this can result in intermittent operation of your tankless heater. Increase water flow by either: A. cleaning your showerhead and removing scale deposits B. widening your flow restrictor C. Remove your flow restrictor in the showerhead

3.If none of these resolves your problem, you probably have debris in your flow sensor. Contact Noritz technical support for a walkthrough on removing debris from a flow sensor.

Noritz tankless water heater/dishwasher not hot enough to clean

You are doing everything you can. Your dishwasher probably isn't drawing enough hot water to activate the unit so opening the faucet and flowing more water will activate the unit. Just try to adjust the flow from the faucet to a point it, plus the draw from the dishwasher, will activate the unit. This will come with trial and error as I am sure you have already experienced. Also, open the dishwasher when it does get filled and check the water temperature. You might have the unit set at a low discharge temperature. Do you have a touchpad to control the water temperature adjustment?

You have a 16 error code, abnormal output temperature. I recommend performing a descale to remove hard water deposits in the heat exchanger. This should resolve your issue.

Noritz not staying hot

How many faucets do you have on when this happens? Turn on more than 1 and if it still does the samt thing than I would check to see if the inlet water screen has debris in it. Valve off the unit and look at the inlet water side and theres a screeen that you should be able to remove and clean undeneith some running water and then replace. Good Luck

I called Noritz error code 16 is a overheat problem. Noritz say's to flush your coil with vinegar or CLR.
Use a small pump to recirculate the CLR or vinegar through the system for 45 minutes and flush with fresh water. This worked for me.
