Question about GE 3.2 Cu. Ft. 8-Cycle Super Capacity Washer - Bisque-on-Bisque

1 Answer

GE washing machine top loaded. The gentle cycle makes strange noices like the agitator is binding. The lights in the laudry room dim when the machine is running so it seems like it is drawing to much power. The normal cycle works fine.

The model number is correct. It is 8 cycle 2 speed, heavy duty, super capacity washer. We bought it 12 years ago brand new.

HI. Most likely the extra draw being pulled to compensate for the restricted rotation of the basket is causing the lights to dim when the unit is in operative status. This grinding noise will essentially be a strong indication of transmission/gear box failure. The damage may be moderate, but it will usually progress further. In order to properly diagnosis accurately, I will need the entire model number that is associated with this particular unit, if possible.

Once I have recived your modle number; I will post a full solution to your issues and post the necessary part number, as well.

The first two letters of your model number are suspect. Can you double check to make sure that these numbers were posted correctly?

As you have posted, I have GUSR2080T5WW. This model ID number willnot register as posted. PLease double check and re post, asap. Most models in this category will start with a WJ.

Okay; I have discovered that this actual model has been discontinued, however, the WJSR2080T5WW Transmission should fit well in this unit. These symptoms are early signs of transmission failure. These issue will progress as the time passes, in the future. I would also recommend to replace the clutch, as well, along with the transmission. Replacing these two parts will correct this problem. The part numbers are below along with a service manual link to help guide you through the repair.

    Clutch - WH5X256
    Transmission - WH38X10002

    Service Manual Link

    • NOTE_ The service manual included in this solution is a universal copy. Although the second title page shows only the 1 and 2 speed definitions; This will not affect the nature of the literature. This manual will describe the removal process of the affected clutch and transmission assemblies that are located in your washer cabinet. These parts must be replaced.

The transmission removal procedure will begin on page 5-1 in the manual and the clutch removal procedure will begin on page 3-3.

your agitator coupling underneath the agitator is stripped out,you need to remove the dispenser on top of the agitator then theres a 7/16" bolt down inside there to remove and the agitator can be lifted out to replace the coupler underneath

GE washer top load makes "chunking sound" in agitate cycle

unplug the machine- you should be able to turn the agitator by hand- turn it by hand- if you hear a noise, get a butter knife, or some other flat, thin item and move it around under the edge of the agitator, there may be a small object jammed under it! if so, then remove it, and enjoy the quiet! the agitators in many machines are removable- but you have to un-screw the top retainer, then use tool to loosen the agitator from the shaft- which can be a bit of a chore!! the older the machine, the more difficult! may want to check if your machine is level- but the spin cycle would tell you more! if it 'walks' across the room on spin, it's really out of level!!
good luck!

Knocking noice in agitation cycle

Do you get same sound if you run through a wash cycle empty (no clothes?) using detergent? If so, then likely a basket support has come loose (check deep inside along top ring). If not, then you may be overloading washer (unless using different sized loads), or the agitator is not working like it should, and basket is torquing.

GE washer WJSR4160G0WW agitation is way too fast & hard

check the 4 rubber cords at the top of the tub. If the washer has been moved they may need to be adjusted, you can see them by looking between the top of the tub and the top cover. You can turn them with your hand, and you may need to tighten them after.

Kenmore 80 topload washer agitation cycle noisy and high current

Sounds like a motor problem drawing to many amps dimming lights. Check drain pump to see if pump has obstruction in it causing resistance. Run machine while pump is off to see if light dim.

GE Top Load Washing Machine -- Agitator will not cycle

Agitator's don't spin on wash cycle.

I would suggest washing the clothes without soap until they rinse clear. If you have hard water, the soap will not easily rinse out of clothes, or off of you when you use soap to wash or shower.

Reduce the amount of soap you use in each wash if this is the case. It sounds like your washing machine is working right.
