Kenmore electric range F5 and F3 warnings

We inherited our range from the previous owners of the house, with no owner's manual. it's been fine for almost 2 years, but lately, we have been getting an alternating F5 and F3 beeping when the oven has been cooking for a few minutes (last time the temp was set to 400 degrees). what might be causing this, and what can we do to fix it? thanks.

I set my oven to 350 and now it is beeping and saying F2. My oven thermometer is saying it is 500 degrees in it.

    What is the problem?

F3 code on Kenmore Oven Model 911 4558810

The F3 error code indicates that the EOC (Electronic Oven Control board) senses a problem with the oven temperature sensor. You could have a defective sensor, a failed EOC or a bad wiring connection between these 2 components.

Normally, a technician is needed to diagnose and repair this type of failure. The technician would unplug the range and access the EOC in the console. He would pull the 15-pin plug from the EOC and measure the resistance between pins 12 and 13 of the plug. This would check the temperature sensor and connecting wiring. The tech should measure about 11000 ohms at room temperature (75 degrees Fahrenheit).

If this reading is good, the EOC would be the failed component and would need to be replaced.

If the resistance reading of the sensor circuit is bad, the reading would be taken directly from the leads on the temperature sensor. If the resistance reading taken directly off the sensor is bad, then the temperature sensor has failed and would need to be replaced. Otherwise, the wire harness is the failed component.

If you have a volt/ohm meter and the technical expertise to safely access and test internal components of your range as described above, you may be able to diagnose and repair the range yourself.

I was cleaning my self cleaning whirlpool accubake oven and a F1 and E7 code appeared. I have just bought my house and the prior owner did not leave any manuals. Help please

Most Whirlpool appliance manuals are available from Whirlpool: http://www.whirlpool.com/owners-center/owners-center-homepage.content.html . You will need the model number from the oven. This should be located behind the oven storage drawer on the rim. It will usually be on the left for a range and on the right for a wall oven. On rare models the plaque with the model number will be behind the door. If you add a comment with the model number, I'll try to post a direct link to the manual.

Are you sure about the error code? F1 and E7 aren't in my code books. I have an F7 and E1 code that indicates a short between the door switch or latch switch and the chassis or ground. (For double ovens, there are two of the switches for each door. The code doesn't specify which oven has a bad switch.) The F5 E7 error is a door latch that will not unlock. An F3 E7 error indicates that the warming drawer sensor has shorted out.

For the F3 E7 error, simply replace the sensor. For the other two errors, the solution depends on the door lock state. You start by unplugging the oven and checking all the wires and their connectors. See http://www.appliancepartspros.com/repairtips/repairtips_appliance+fault+codes.aspx#Whirlpool%20Range%20/%20Stove%20/%20Oven%20Fault%20Codes for the complete set of steps. If the wires/connectors are okay, you probably need to replace one of the door switches if the oven door was locked when the error occurred. If it wasn't locked, then you can check the voltage to the various switches and replace any that are bad. If it isn't a switch, then it is the control that has failed and must be replaced.

I hope this helps.

I have a whirlpool/kenmore plus range that came with our house when we purchased it. Former owners did not leave a manual for it. The numbers on it are 95779890 and serial RJ3516457. I wanted to "auto...

The E1- F5 error is a door lock error.

The control (TIMER) has likely failed in this instance - BUT...

Sometimes when you disconnect power to a range and reconnect it the electronic range control gets confused.
You should disconnect power again for 15 seconds and reconnect and see if that helps.

If it doesn't cure the E1- F5 error hold the bake button in until E0- F2 appears in the display.
This is the error for a stuck button on the keypad and is the way to clear the memory of the electronic range control.

Sometimes these work, but if the control has failed it won't make any difference.

Flashes code F3 (sometimes f5) and beeps

OK. I found the manual your looking at. The serial number label is located at the back left and underneath the cook-top. I am not certain if you can see it by removing the burner and tray, but if not, you can "pop the top" by grasping along the seam at the front of the unit, just above the door. DISCONNECT POWER FIRST!

And, in doing some more looking around, if you have reset the controller using the instructions from the manual (which includes disconnecting power for about an hour), then odds are pretty high it's either the temperature sensor, or the controller. The sensor is cheap, the controller more expensive, but odds are better it's the controller. Replace, or have, both replaced. You'll have essentially a new oven when you do this.
