just turn off the sws messages.
it probably recieved a jumbled signal from a "roadworks traffic control unit".that it couldn't understand.

Sounds like a bad piezo. (speaker) If you want to replace it yourself it's pretty simple if you can use a soldering iron. it's either 2 or 4 pionts to de-solder the old one. the make and model will be stamped on it. Then goto Google or yahoo and enter the make and model, you'll find tons of styles to choose from and or the exact replacement. Should be under 10 bucks. If you have any troubles with this, post a comment and I can help you some more. (note) I spent 16 years in the world of custom automotive electronics and audio & I still love this stuff. I have the same thing wrong with mine ! I put it in my other car and it works fine. Found out it was my alternater was not working right! Hope this works for you

If its still under warrenty Call Beltronics 800-341-2288 I had the same problem and they re-tuned the Detector and updated the firmware my Vector 985 was out of warrenty by 5 months and Bel repaired it for free. Hope this helps
