Where the drain hose connects to the unit there is a plug that either has to be knocked out or pulled out depending on the model unit.

if the water drains normally without using the disposal sounds like the blades on the disposal are not working properly. may need to replace the disposal.

Will not drain...but is turning....i tried to reset by pushing the red button and did nothing...i took the L wrench and turned it from the bottom and still nothing...sink is full of water too..what can i...

1) If disposal will not drain: Clean the tubular drain under sink.
Remove 2 nuts on p-trap, and trap falls loose, then remove tailpiece on side of disposal, hand rag over opening to direct water downward, turn on water, turn on disposal and see if disposal empties, clean p-trap, and then reassemble tubular drain.

2) If disposal will not drain and will not run: Clean tubular drain, check for power to disposal.
If disposal is getting power and will not run, and reset button is not tripped out, and cutter disk rotates freely, then disposal is bad.

Clean out the drain and see if that helps.
Remove both nuts on p-trap and trap falls loose.
Remove tailpiece from side of disposal.
Hang rag over disposal opening so it directs water downward.
Run water and turn on disposal.
Turn off disposal and use coat hanger to remove debris if necessary.

Never have used a garbage disposal, now after 4 month and using it only about 30 times the water in the sink will not drain. When I turn on the garbage disposal the water in the sink swirls so I know it is...

hello fowl..... you have a blockage in the garbage disposal. you can use a chemical drain cleaner and pour it into the sink where the disposal is located. you should also look into that drain with a flashlight to make sure that there is not a fork or some other object causing the blockage. If you do not choose to use the chemical, you can also disconnect the disposal using the wrench that should be under the sink where the disposal is located. if you choose this method, have a pail handy to catch the water. also unplug the disposal before you work on it. Sink only drains when garbage disposal is run. Have cleaned trap, snaked pipe and no clogs still wont drain unless disposaln is tturned on.

Sounds like a clog inside disposal.
Water should run freely through disposal.
Remove both nuts on p-trap and trap falls loose.
Put bucket under tubular drain from disposal.
Turn water on to see if water runs out of disposal.
You might need a de-greaser, drain cleaner or CLR

Garbage disposal seems to work **** water down put when you turn the swich off water come back into the sink fast

You have some type of obstruction in your drain. There is enough force to push the water in the drain, perhaps even raising the level up into the vent line. When you switch off the disposal, then it rushes back into the shink. Disconnect drain line and run a snake into the drain.

Water won't drain. no food in bottom of disposal

Sometimes, the dishwasher can back stuff up into your disposer drain and plug it up. Disconnect the disposer drain and make sure that it is unplugged. If it is in a bind, you can rotate the innards my applying the wrench that comes with the unit to the socket on the bottom side of the disposer. It is an allen head usually.
You can also fill the disposer with hot water and plunge it like you would a stuck drain, but this is really less preferable as there are many ways to plumb these drains, and you may wind up either just relocating the plug to something (dishwasher?) else, or pop the drain line off, making a mess.
IF it is a new disposer, and has never been used, you'll want to make sure theat the casting inside of the outlet tube is cleaned out.

Dble sink, one with the garbage disp. won't drain standing water

It's a drain clog within the disposal. Try a drain cleaner, if no luck, you will likely need to replace it.

Garbage disposal spouting water after turned off

Hello, turn on the disposal without water and pour hot water into disposal. Be careful not to let it splash back on you! If this doesn't help you have to remove the drain and drain trap and clean them out. If you need more help let me know. Good luck.

GE disposal won't drain

It sounds to me like the knock out plug leading from the disposal has never been removed. Remove the drain like and you may find that there is a thin plastic wall preventing any water from leaving the disposal. Just place a small screwdriver in the opening up against the plastic barrier and tap it out with a hammer. good luck
