Question about Canon CanoScan 8400F Flatbed Scanner

CanoScan 8400F problem with an CanoScan 8400F, just started 2 days ago. I have tried all the usual things pwr off, usb, uninstalled driver, downloaded latest, get the same error each time. Code: 2,178,0. I even hooked it up to another pc that had never used it or its drivers and when tested it does the same thing with the same error on a different pc. This is crazy.

    I try to scan(CanoScan8400) and a window appears that says :


    The necessary file could be missing or damaged,or some settings are incorrect. 
    Reinstall the scanner driver
    Scanner driver will be closed

Try this:

Open the CanoScan Toolbox.
Click the Save option.
Put a check in the box that states "Display the Scanner Driver".
Click Scan.
Click the Advanced Mode tab.
Make sure Select Source is set to "Platen".
Click the Preview button at the top left.
If the error still occurs, then most likely it will be a service issue.

One thing to check...see if the inside lamp illuminates when you turn the scanner on using the power button at the back left side of the scanner.

I have a canonScan 8400F there's a connection with computer however when i open adobe photoshop there's no preview..


I have many years experience repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion for you.

I guess I have a couple of questions for you first. Does your computer recognize the scanner is attached to your computer? If so can you scan in any other program like Windows Paint? If you say yes to both of these then the problem is with configuring your adobe software. If you say no then we need to go back to basics. I would google Canon Canoscan 8400F Drivers, it should pull up a page that will take you to Canons official website. Download the latest drivers from Canon's official website,the drivers are dated and the ones towards the top should be the latest drivers. The drivers are free. Also while your there download the newest version of Capture Perfect its a utility program for scanning its free also but download the latest one. Now make sure your scanner is unplugged from your computer, the cable that goes from the scanner to the computer. Install the latest drivers on to your computer. Once they are installed, then with your scanner powered on attach the cable from the scanner to your computer. A window should pop up saying a new device (or drivers) is being installed. Once this completes reboot your scanner and you should be able to scan again.

I use Paint shop and in order for me to scan with my Canon scanner I need to go to aquire and image, from a scanner or camera, and then it controls the scanner and does the scanning for me.

I need Quick Start Manual + CDs


please the scaner driver cds put in cd-rom other cd dariter and instoll the scaner driver ane location in c drive in instoll
and start the scaner and opening the user progrmmes and start job
and second time adobe photofhop progrmmes is instoll and open the photoshop and scan in and you chouse the file just tiff - jpeg -other select and ok this file other progrmme in workink file ok

Canon 8400f suddenly will not allow neg scan option


just had the same problem, check the connection going into the top part of the scanner at the back and restart which ever program your using... got mine sorted

Cannot select Negative film source


If you're using Mac OS X 10.5.x, you definitely need a new driver. Download here.

For Mac or Windows, if film is not an option in the dropdown, then most likely the Film Adapter Unit (Scanner Lid) is not being detected. Check the connection on the back. Make sure the cable going from the lid to the base of the scanner is secure.

Not scanning


You have tried everything possible!. Try and reinstall the OS. If some dll files are corrupted, this will resolve it. You may have to reinstall all other software!

Not showing in programs


Make sure the scanner is turned on. There is a power switch on the side of this scanner.
