Question about HP DeskJet 970cxi InkJet Printer

2 Answers

Have a 970Cxi printer. Boutht it @ 10 years ago and it works great. I think it was ahead of its' time. Anyway, I'm having problems with feeding envelopes. Used to be small size, now it won't feed size 10 either. The envelope starts bunching up inside and when it finishes I have a a bunch of squished characters. There is nothing in the owners manual that described how to disassemble the printer.

When you write increase the paper gap levers are you refering to printers that have a slider that you push to the side of the envelope thereby keeping the envelope aligned? Or are you talking about an internal adjustment. My printer does not have the external alignment slider.

I used a can of compressed air and blew the rollers and anywhere else I thought might be helpful. I printed an envelope without any problems. Probably will need a new printer soon. Would still appreciate an answer to my last question before I went ahead and accepted this solution. Thanks

The problem lies in feed of the paper/envelopes. Try increasing the gap by adjusting the paper size levers. Make it more and then try hand feeding one by one. Also clean the rollers which can be done by a brush or blowing, as dust can accumulate over a long period of use. The dust/paper flint on the rollers can cause obstruction in smooth rolling of the paper/envelope.

Some of the printers come with a small lever generally in front to adjust the paper thickness size for various printing. In your case your printer is auto paper sensor so there is no need to worry about this problem. You can approach the inner mechanism by using the rotating knob in the rear.
Always use the sliders in the paper tray to adjust the paper feed. Rightly so now go for a new printer as 10 years is a long time and you can get one with latest technology.

Sounds like the fuser is worn and cant properly pull the paper through. Dont know what size envelope you are using but in some cases the envelope is to small and once it gets so far in the machine theres no rollers to push/pull it through so it gets stuck in the middle. Where is the end of the envelope when you open the lid. You also might want to remove the paper guide on top 1 screw and lift up and towards the machine cavity and it comes out and clean the roller underneath.

Hi There

You do not mention what operating system you use. If it is Windows Vista or Windows 7, it could be a driver problem causing this (you probably worked wit XP before). The HP 970 Printer is the best part of 10 years old, and therefor drivers might be difficult to get hold of.

By the way, the HP 970 range was one of the truly better printers HP has ever made.

My X2250 will not feed the single sheet of paper evenly. When looking at the...

Printer would not feed paper no matter how many sheets were in the bin or how clean the printer. I even cleaned the roller. The issue was I just needed a little more tension on the roller that pulled the paper in.

I removed the rear access door (see manual). Off to the left near the feeder roller you will see a spring. What I did is mover the spring to the END of the plastic arm that it is attached to (if it is missing have a bigger problem). If you have moved your printer around a bit, the spring may have slipped down on to the arm and is no longer sitting at the end. This will extend the spring another 1/16 of an inch ...and that is all all it took for me. My printer will now feed a single sheet of paper with no issues. BTW: I put a drop of glue on it after so it would not slip off.

"incorrect color cartridge installed" message

I have the same problem and I am looking for a solution also. I stopped using the printer for some time and then purchased some refurbished cartridges and hooked it back up. Prior to this I never had a problem except for paper not feeding correctly from the top feeder. Anyway the way I was able to get around this was to send a fax, once the fax was completed the printer was ready. Of course someone turns it off etc I am back to the problem on start up. The fax trick no longer works for me but might work for someone else. If anyone has the solution please post it.

Paper feeder won't follow through

The feeder mechanism has so to speak come undone and the printer needs taking aprt and putting back together with the feeder and the cogs interacting with eachother. Ther is a small metal clip lick tensioner to keep it in contact with the cogs, if the clip has come off it just needs securing back in place.b8ec9a2.jpg
