I would look around for a better deal anyway.
I dont know of any ISP that charges you for the rental of a modem.
I am in the UK, and every internet service provider gives you the modem (and usually a wireless router) free with the package

Computer is not connecting to the router other than via lead connection which means we are not able to use the network as intended

If you connect the computer to the router , it works.
That means the wired connection is OK.
Open the set up page of the router check the wireless settings of the router.
I think your network is secured and you are not typing the correct network key.
just open the router set up and check the wireless settings .

I gave my netgear router WGr614 to my daughter she is not able to connect to the internet. my security code is my old phone number would that make a difference?

How does she connect to the internet on the other PC? If a cable or ADSL modem is used then this needs to be connected to the WAN port of the router. Other wired systems need then to connect to the routers LAN ports. The wireless connections sound like they are already working connecting ok. Any trouble that might come after connecting in this fashion might come because the router is set to a fixed IP. Router needs to be set to connect via dynamic DCHP option.

Cant connect cable modem

If you have phone (DSL_ the phone must be connected to the modem of DSL, then connect the ethernet cable from the modem to the wireless router or router (use the jack WAN) and then from the modem (connect the cable into port # 1) goes to your PC into your ethernet card.

You have to access to your router and set your network (you have to put the data of your internet connection gave to you by your internet provider (usually is your email address and your pass)

I have a linksys WRT546 wireless G router someone gave me. I want to connect it to my laptop which is wireless ready and compatible. What type of software or other directions do I need to make it work...

You don't need any extra software.

Connect ethernet cable between PC and router
On back of router may be a IP number like 192.186.1.1
Open internet explorer and type in this number
It may ask you for a password - try no password or 'admin'
If you cannot guess the password becuase it has been set to an unknown word. reset the router using hidden button on back.
Once you have a menu, use the wizard to input your ISP login name and password.
To set up wireless, set an SSID (any name - e.g. fred).
Try to get wireless working between laptop and router.
Once it works, set a WEP key in the router and computer for better security.

I have bought a belkin wireless g router. my pc is virgin broadband i need to connect an aspire lap top. where do i plug in to make the router work

Hello,

If you have your pc connected directly to your Virgin Broadband modem through the ETH/LAN port on your pc then disconnect it from that port on your PC.

Then connect the same cable to your Belkin Routers Internet/WAN port. Then take the extra cable that came with the Belkin router and connect it to 1 of the 4 lan ports on the Belkin router. Then connect the other end to your PC in the LAN port.

After that, restart your PC and everything should be fine.

Thanks

Office Networking problems

Where does the cable from the wall jack come from? A switch that is connected to the Internet?

For the Internet to work with router, you need to have a modem that is connected to Internet already, meaning ISP knows about the router via MAC address, and from the modem use an ethernet cable to connect router port called "Internet" or "WAN". then from an open port in back of router another ethernet cable to your NIC in back of computer.

Computer not connecting to Router

Ok make sure your PC is connected to the router with a network cable for programming.
I noticed you said 192.168.1.1. I see an extra period just wanna make sure your typing it in correct
192.168.1.1

Ok so make sure the cable modem is plugged into the WAN on the router... Now connect another ethernet cable to the PC and the router. Reset the modem and router... wait a few mins and try to connect to the programming setup.
