From the research i have done if you sell it on craigslist 100 is about the most you will get for it. unless you find someone who isnt smart enough to research. fron what i understand you can get about 200 if you dis assemble and recycle.

My old forney welder only will work when I clamp the ground to the metal I want to weld on.

It looks as though previously you have been depending upon serendipitous earth (a happy accident). Electric welders are designed for the substrate to be earthed.

Welding troubleshooting

You could pass voltage but no welding current if the current carrying cable inside the mig gun has a break in it. Inside the mig gun is a braided copper current passing cable, if it only has a few strands of wire to complete the circuit it will not pass weld current. They usually break where the mig gun has been flexed over time.

Forney model cb serial 145669 can't read front of welder.10 holes unmarked above low med hi

Here is picture of my Model CB. Based on the serial number it is slightly newer, but it should be close enough. Mine also came with a battery charger, which why it has the extra hole.11_22_2012_4_51_47_pm.jpg

Old AC180T welder has a weak arc no weld

Are you using cored wire? Or shieldgas? if the later, you may not be getting any to the gun.

If you are using solid wire without shield gas, you will get what you describe.

In the off chance you are using the correct combinations, you may have a loose connection in the circuit that adding resistance to the circuit and lowering the effective voltage at the tip. Make sure all connections are tight inside of the machine as well as the cables and gun assembly as well.

Bracket that holds the steering column snapped(car was broken into)

if it is less than 10 years old visit a dealer and ask them to show you the IPB and sell you the part.
if it is more than 10 unlikely they will have the part so you are looking at used parts via junkyards aka auto recyclers which are now online, eBay, and craigslist.

starting any parts search at google will usually give you a treasure trove of links and hints.

Problems with welding with a Forney 180 amp. Arc Stick Welder

check your input power connections on the primary side of the welders transformer, then if its an infinite control welder check that control, otherwise if it's a plug- in selectable amperage check these connections,it sounds like the infinite control is getting dirty and not passing all the current it shows on the control, also double your O.C.V. on the secondary and see if its with-in welder specs

Northern tool brand wire fed gasless welder feeds wire fan work no welding?

You need to have the ground attached to what you'll be welding on. Make sure there isn't anything on the end of your wire. Also, if your voltage is all the way down it won't do anything either. Oh, one more thing, make sure you have a contact tip on the end inside the cone. That will be the copper thing the wire goes through with a really small hole. I know some of this sounds pretty obvious but if I hadn't done these things at least once.....I wouldn't know what to look at either. I also don't know your experience level and want to cover all avenues. Hope you find it!
