Hi, these are the possible cause of the problem, you have to check one after the other to proffer the solution.

  • Vents between fridge and freezer sections are clogged with ice. Warranty guy told me to unplug 24 hours, replug and everything should work out.
  • Fautly thermostat.
  • Clogged/dirty evaporator coils (underneath in newer models, on back in older models).
  • Bad "Adaptive Defrost Control Board", Google it, it's an easy fix, about $35 on ebay, just make sure you

Does the control thermastat have anything to do with the freezer on my refrigerator getting cold but not freezing

If you remove the evaporator cover and look at the frost on the evaporator is it fairly even frost from top to bottom? If you don't have frost on the bottom half of your evaporator then you have a freon leak. Do you have a model number for your unit?

Freezer cold and fan running. Refrigerator side not cold, no cold air circulation. Wife says sound of refrigerator is lower pitch like something that used to be running is no longer running. Is there...

Hello Otis,
Thier is only one fan in the freezer that circulates the air throughout both ref/freezer. I dont know if ya have a side by side or if freezer on top..but if side by side one possible cause would be the damper in the upper left corner of the refrig. compartment is stuck closed so no air can enter ref.compartment(no damper if freezer on top or even if older model side by side) on either model also even if freezer on the bottom, another possible thing is frost has built up in the freezer and the coil in freezer is a huge block of frost and no air can poass through it because its totally frozen.

Let me know which might be the problem and i will help ya check that EI..is the damper stuck..is it all frosted up and ya can see frost on back plate of freezer wall ect ect..

Ref is cool not cold, tried vaccum the front underneath, I hear is running on top, even clean out the freezer, any suggestion?? mode # 596.638222.00 and how old is this???

Look and see if you have frost on the back side of the freezer. If you do then the defrost heater and thermostat need to be replaced. 596 prefix on your model number tells me that is an Amana Bottom mount ice box. Service Manual

Video which shows how to use your control to check for faults in the ice box

If your fan motor is blowing then I would say you have a defrost problem. How about a good old apartment top mount ice box manual from whirlypool?

Kenmore Freezer works, but refridgerator is warm

Either there is a refrigerant leakage or if it is a no frost refrigerator air ducts to the refrigerator is closed due to frosting. Switch off the refrigerator for 3 hours and restart again.

What would cause my freezer to frost up with ice on the top. it is a bottom freezer,, pull out drawer and we have only had it for a little over a year.. it is a Kenmore "elite". model no. 596 7626*

If it is very humid in your area and the freezer is opened and closed often it can cause ice to build up. Try to minimize opening the freezer for 24 hours and see if the automatic defrost will eliminate some (or all) of the buildup.

KENMORE MODEL 596 BOTTOM FREEZER, FRIDGE NOT COOLING

The freezer will stay cold because a small amount of cold air will be forced through the frost but that will not be enough to make it up to the refrigerator portion. You can defrost the unit by removing the metal panel and allowing the frost to melt. Careful use of a hairdryer can speed up this process. This will likely be a temporary fix. The root cause of excessive frost can be caused by a bad door seal or a defective defrost circuit.

First check that the door seal is good by closing the door on a dollar bill at several points around the door, both on the freezer and refidgerator door. If you can pull the bill out with no resistance, the door is not making a good seal. Inspect the seal and make sure there isn't anything stopping the door from closing such as food, or a shelf not pushed in all the way.

If the door seal is good, the defrost system is likely defective. The defrost system has three main parts, the defrost heater, thermostat, and timer. None of these parts are particularly expensive, or difficult to replace you feel comfortable with repairing it yourself. If you can troubleshoot this by manually starting the defrost cycle. Let me know if you would like this procedure.

Frost on back wall of freezer, side by side, wont freeze

It's most likely a defrost issue. One or more of your defrost components have failed. Defrost components are defrost thermostat, defrost heater, and defrost timer or board depending on model

Fridge wont stay cold in the bottom.

Your frost free is not defrosting properly. There should be no ice buildup in the freezer section. Frost in the freezer section stops air circulation to the refrigerator section.
