Question about Honeywell Programmable Thermostat Heater

1 Answer

I have a problem with my Honeywell non-programable thermostat T8411R 1028. Screen is blank + AC won't come on. Home Depot and Lowe's do not carry this model and after looking online all I get is part is obsolete. In theory if I can find one of the exact model shouldn't I just be able to snap it into the footprint (plate) left on wall by last one (with all wiring left as is)?

This thermostat is powered by the tranformer in the air handler. Before you change the thermostat, make sure the transformer is working. First check the circuit breaker for the air handler. If you have or can get a voltmeter, check for power on the transformer primary (120vac) and the output from the secondary (24vac). If you can't get a voltmeter then go to the thermostat and remove the face from the base plate. Use a piece of wire to jump power between the R and G terminals. The indoor fan should come on if the transformer is good. If it doesn't come on the transformer needs to be replaced. You are right about just replacing the face. It should work with the base that is already on the wall.

I am replacing an T8411R with RTHL3550 and I have the following wires. Original vs New G=G,R=R,Y=Y,O=O......? I have a W2 and an E wire that go into different screws on original but no seperate terminal...

C is actually a power wire; it provides power for some programmable thermostats. You don't have to connect it on the new thermostat; cover the end with electrical tape to avoid it causing a short. (If you keep that wire accessible, it will be nice for someone who wants to use another programmable thermostat. The ones which can talk to wireless networks require this wire.)

Do you have a heat pump? That is the only time a thermostat uses an E wire.

The W2 wire should go to AUX (third screw terminal from the left) and the E wire should go to E (second screw terminal from the left). See page 25 (27 on the pdf) of the Quick Installation manual for the RTHL3550. This manual is available from Honeywell at http://yourhome.honeywell.com/home/Products/Thermostats/Digital-Non-Programmable/RTHL3550D.htm .

I hope this helps.

Hooking up a new thermostat honeywell rth7600 from a honeywell t8411r. we hooked up the wires as shown in the installation manual- we have fan but no cold air blowing out or it feels like the heat is...

apparently who ever did the wiring installation did not use the Proper color coding when they did the install. Now you must trace the wiring to the appliance and wire accordingly.

Are these thermostats still available

Hi, if you are talking about Honeywell thermostats, yes they are just about any hardware store such as Home Depot, Lowe's, and wholesale a/c and heating houses, but you have to know or be a contractor to buy one there. Home Depot will have them.

Honeywell T8411R 1028No power to the thermostat; breakers are not

site shows this thermostat is a non programmable unit and has been discontinued. none of the info sheets including a pdf shows a replacement battery. this thermostat operates off line voltage only. check for a control fuse or breaker on your heating unit.

How do I get my honeywell system up and going?

for now, put switches on thermostat to hear and press the up arrow button to the desired temp. All your programed temps will take more explaining and it would be best you secure a owners instruction book from home depot. oif anything, buy thr same thermostat and either keep it or return it . I'd keep it regardless, read the pmphlet, program you heat and a/c before returning for refund. Don't destroy packaging and give them back everything. You will also need two AAbatteries. Good luck.

I have installed a honeywell programable thermostat that has been working well until the outdoor temp reached higher temps. Now it continuously blows like a fan and does not cool the home.

Sounds like the t-stat is wired wrong or if you bought a honeywell from home depot didn't set up correctely. You could also have other issues, like low on freon, dirty filters. You might need to call a Service company to take a look at it.
