Question about Singer CE-200 Quantum Futura Computerized Sewing Machine

Open Question

My Futura ce-250 has started beeping error code 88 & continuiosly flashing all lights every time the needle reaches its highest position. It will not sew or embroid. The manual suggests the code & lights are 'machine malfunction'. Has anyone had this problem? I'm wondering if it's a broken sensor of some sort? how did you fix it? Thanks....

SOURCE: needle breaking-CE 250

I had that same problem and it was due to the thread being too tight. Put the thread net on your thread and it should be ok.

SOURCE: Thread break warning when thraed is fine

Try switching to a higher quality thread, and blowing out the upper assemblies with canned air. (Making sure the machine is turned off before you do so.) Many problems are associated with low-quality thread, (Coats and Clark is the worst offender in this category.) Set your tension to about 4.5 and then try sewing again.
If this doesn't help, you may have a bad sensor, which would require service.

SOURCE: A brand new Singer Quantum

Dear Magarita, The safety device is activated when thread gets entangled around the bobbin case. First check by removing the plastic see-through plate. If necessary remove the 2 scews on the metal needle plate and remove the bobbin case completely. Put it back and test by turning the handwheel. It should turn freely.

Hope this solves your problem.

SOURCE: The needle constantly breaks while embroidering.

My foot does this with different thickness of fabrics, it will make the foot land in different, areas, sometimes making the needle hit the foot. Always check needle position before you start embroidering. once your hoop is ready, check the clearance. I often have to use a small roll of non slip material under the foot handle, the one used to bring the foot down. And I use this to adjust the needle postition so it will always land in the middle of the embroidery foot. There is also a way to adjust the height of the needle arm but that's too complicated to get into here and I've never personally tried it.

Error Code 88 - when I adjust the embroidery unit

Usually the owner's manual will list the most common error codes in the Troubleshooting Section. It is difficult for anyone to help diagnose your problem without the make and model of your machine.

I cannot thread my bobbin, I can sew. When I try to thread the bobbin, Code 88 starts flashing.

You said "trying to THREAD the bobbin." Did you mean it happens when you put an empty bobbin on and push the spindle to the right? Is your needle all the way up? If so, pull the buttonhole lever ALL the way down, then smack it up, and check to make sure the twin needle lever is not selected. Frankly, I'm not in love with that system anyway; you might think about purchasing an inexpensive Sidewinder for less than $20. You can order from WalMart online; if you pick it up at a WalMart or FedEx facility like Kinko's, shipping is free. Believe me, you'll do yourself a favor; many problems with these machines are actually caused by loosely wound and/or badly wound bobbins. Also, think about purchasing prewounds; they're actually cheaper than winding your own.

Thread my bobbin, Code 88 starts flashing & all lights

I owned a CE-200 for about six years, and as I recall, that code blinks if your needle is not all the way up. If it is NOT up, operations are suspended until it is. That means that the hoop cannot reset to its default position.

Bobbin case keeps popping out of my CE-100 Futura. Not sure whether or not the case is in there correctly.

Raise the needle to it's highest position and the case should go right into the shuttle.

Refer to the maintenance section of the manual for your machine.

If you do not have a manual, you can get one at the Brother website.

My futura sewing machine seems locked up

Try removing the screws that hold the needle plate on and take it off, remove the bobbin case and check for loose thread in the bobbin area. Sometimes machines lock up when a small piece of thread gets under the bobbin case, this is called being "thread locked". Hope this helps. I'll see what I can find out about the "88" error message.
