Question about Brinkmann Charmglow Stainless Steel LP Drop-In 4-Burner Grill 810-6805-0 (LP)

1 Answer

This si the second time I have had a problem when I changed tanks. It started working the first time but not this time. The tank valve is open and the pressure guage is in the green, until you tirn on the burner to light it, then the pressure guage goes to red (empty) and the burner lights for about 1/2 second then goes out from lack of gas. It worked fine until I changed to full tanks. As soon as I turn off the burner the pressure guage goes back to full ! Help please

Many newer grills have a safety feature built in where the valve will not
allow gas to flow if the burner valve is in ON position when the valve on
the tank is opened.

Try this - Shut of all valves, disconnect and then re-connect hose to tank,
turn on valve above LP tank, THEN turn on burner valve, light w/ spark or
match...

This feature can be really frustrating if you don't know it is in
operation...

If in the past your system can build-up pressure up to 40 psi even if the supply valve is open and water is being used in your house, then your pump impeller maybe already worn out that's why its pumping capacity was reduced.

Hello
Having worked for Ford for 25 years and having seen this very same problem (fuel flows between tank and overflows) many times there is only one cause of the fuel flooding the other tank, the fuel switching valve on the frame rail under the truck is detective, this valve contains special silicone rubber poppet valves that open when the front or wear tank fuel pump is selected, it then seals when the tanks electric pump is shut off at the selector switch, your poppet valves are leaking, all to a common problem. Back in 2000 when I retired this switching valve was no longer sold by Ford parts, it is obsolete. I suggest you check with Ford to see if it is available from some other source or call a local parts store like NAPA or Carquest and inquire is anyone in the aftermarket has them. The last choice is a used one, but of course it could have the same problem as yours as age and deterioration of the rubber valves is what makes them leak.

Does not start. manual start doesnt work either.

First, is your grill on a cart or built in to an island? Secondly, are you using a 20lb propane tank to fire the grill or is it hard piped to the grill from your house? And finally, has it been converted from Propane to Natural Gas?

If you're using a 20lb LP Grill Tank are you sure there's still gas in the tank? Did you just installed a new, full tank recently and the problem started after that?

If the latter is the case, turn off the grill tank valve and disconnect the hose from the tank. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Turn the tank valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY, until it's fully open. Light each burner one at a time and turn then to high flame. Do the flames look normal? Are they the proper height? Is so, you just solved your problem. Remember to turn the tank valve on very, very slowly after turning it off each time.

If you grill is hard piped from your house, be sure that the gas line shutoff valve is turned ON.

Hope this helps solve your problem.

It's possible you may need a new regulator, but usually this problem is due to opening the propane tank valve too fast, which can cause the built-in excess flow valve to check closed to only a trickle. Next time you use the grill, very slowly open the tank valve and see if that solves it. If not, replace the regulator. Douglas

The flame coming out of the burner bars is small

May likely be low on propane or propane tank gate valve not opened far enough. Otherwise sounds like faulty regulator.

Grill wont stay lit

These new tanks have a safety device installed in them . If you open the valve quickly or tip the jug the damn thang won't work. Take the tank loose, open all the grill valves and close all valves. Reconnect the tank and SLOWLY open the valve a hair. Light the burners. No need to open the valve all the way. if you do the dumb safety will plug the jug.
