You may just have a weak battery, so get the one from your truck and see if that helps. If not get your jumpers and attach one to the negative and force it to have a new ground. Still nothing? take a pair of pliers and use the handles to arc across both big lugs on the starter solenoid. This may cause sparks --so no fuel nearby!! If that isn't doing it, you need a new starter, BUT try tapping the starter body with a big screwdriver handle first.

Sometimes the brushes are just stuck.

Try spraying some CRC Light lubricant on the spiral where the pinion gear slides up and down. Can you turn the gear so it will move up to the flywheel? If it turns and stays at the bottom, you will need a new pinion gear! Does the starter motor spin?

We replaced the water pump on a 1990 Evinrude 25 hp motor, but it isn't working. Can you help us?

It may look easy in the book but there are a few things that can go out. Such as the key/roll pin that drives the impeller can slip out on assembly. Water tube out of hole or damaged OR pieces of old impeller in it depending on why you needed to replace it. There are more but if you are not a trained tech it may be time to find one.

Evinrude motor problems

The stater gear is thrown up by the quick spinning of the starter motor. It is on "ramps" that move it up. They can get corroded or gummed up. It should have a very light or dry lubricant on them.
Also if the motor is worn it may not accelerate with enough "snap"
If the battery is weak or the connections are corroded, you can get the same result. Hope this helps.

Hi have you tried it with the stop switchl/button disconnected, if so you have only got the stator under the flywheel left to replace, regards Phil.

Where is the starter located on 1985 Honda Civic?

The starter is located on the firewall side of the engine block, adjacent to the flywheel or torque converter housing. Early models, use a direct drive type starter, while the later models use a gear reduction starter. Otherwise, the two units are similar in operation and service. Both starters are 4-pole, series wound, DC units to which an outboard solenoid is mounted. When the ignition switch is turned to the start position, the solenoid armature is drawn in, engaging the starter pinion with the flywheel. When the starter pinion and flywheel are fully engaged, the solenoid armature closes the main contacts for the starter, causing the starter to crank the engine. When the engine starts, the increased speed of the flywheel causes the gear to overrun the starter clutch and rotor. The gear continues in full mesh until the ignition is switched from the start to the on position, interrupting the starter current. The shift lever spring then returns the gear to its neutral position.

Begin the starter removal by first disconnecting the wires leading to it

Hope helps (remember rated this).

save yourself some money and go get a lawn mower solenoid and find a way to mount it yourself. I have done a johnson outboard and a tigershark jet ski this way with no problems.
