Question about Audio Players & Recorders
Unfortunately not all accessories are interchangeable. It sounds like the iPod dock may have damaged your Creative MP3 player. If the unit only functions when it is plugged into AC power, I'd guess that the battery or charging circuitry was damaged somehow.
You don't say what model the Creative MP3 player is so I don't know if the battery on this particular unit is replaceable or not. If it is, you might start there. Otherwise the unit may require service which you can obtain by contacting the manufacturer or through a local consumer electronics store (such as Best Buy).
