Many thanks! I'm new to digital cameras, but not photography. Never had to worry about dust on the "film" before!

    Thanks again.

If you see the spots on the images after transferring them to another device, my first guess would be there is a speck of dust on the CCD. It just works its way in there sometimes. You could do the surgery yourself and blast it lightly with some canned air to remedy that.

If you're not transferring the images and you're just reviewing them on your camera, it could just be a spot on the LCD. This could also be remedied with some canned air and minor surgery.

Good luck from darntoothysam.com

1.Remove the battery, lens and CF card. Allow the camera to sit without power for 20 minutes and then reinsert a fully charged battery.
2.Turn the camera on and push the shutter button as if you were taking a picture.
3. If you don't get the error message reattach the lens and insert the CF card.

I have spots on all of my photos. It's particularly noticable when taking photos with a solid background, particularly anything with sky involved. I've tried cleaning the lens and taken the lens off to...

Never, never touch the mirror!!!. You have dust on your sensor. Google the words "how to clean a DSLR sensor" and you will find sites which explain the procedure and places to get the supplies needed.

Canon eos 20d giving false error message

CF means that it can't read the compact flash socket on the side. I had a similar problem on one of my bodies. I would try either a different (new or one that hasn't been in the body) with a freshly charged battery. If this doesn't help, you can only send it in for diagnostics and repair

Hi all, I wonder if you can supply some advice regarding a Sigma17-35mm lens I purchased earlier in the year. Basically if I use the automatic or 'P' setting on my Canon EOS 30D camera the image is over...

Try your EOS in AV (aprature value) mode. You should be able to adjust your aperature value in 1/3 or 1/2 steps dependind how you have your Custom Functions set in your camera's menu. Possibly the lens you purchased is for an EOS 35mm. If you use a 35mm lens on your eos there are some calculations you must use. When using a 35mm lens on the EOS 20D, 30D, 40D and 50D bodies, you must first calculate your focal leingth by 1.6 times. With this, your exposure changes as well.

The only EOS Digital SLR bodies that use a 35mm x 24mm CMOS sensor are the 1D and 5D. My wife uses a Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 lens on her 20D and loves it.

If this makes no difference, you may have a defective lens.

Grainy, Spot Filled Images when using Manual Modes Only

It sounds like the aperture is getting set very high. If the aperture is a high number, the lens opening is very small which lets less light in and would cause a dark image. This would also show any dust that is in or on the lens or image sensor. The dust doesn't usually show on apertures with a larger opening (smaller number). Make sure your aperture is being set to a reasonable number, probably no higher than 8 or so.

My computer is not recognising my EOS 20D!

Hi I have exactly the same problem. I'm running Windows Vista Business as the OS and have installed the disk that came with the camera with no avail.

It keeps recognising it as a scanner, but I cannot open the pics. I've tried different cables as well. No use.

Soft Images

Have you done the basic unsharp masking after RAW processing? Normally you'll find a 500% strength, 0.3 pixel and a threshold of 1 or 2 brings out the detail masked by the AA filter very well. DOn't bother with the sharpening in PS ACR....it's too crude and doesn't account for how big an enlargement you'll be making. In other words, there's no control. Best of luck....

Connection Problem

I too have a Canon 20D and receive the same message. Zoombrowser works fine with my Canon G3, so the way I get around this problem is by using the other software that came with the 20D called EOS Viewer. This software will download your images every time. You might try sending a note to Canon's support team on the Canon website. They are very quick to respond to all questions and they can probably respond to this question too. Good luck!
