Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I had a Canon powershot A1000 IS, but it broke (the lens would not retract) so I purchased a powershot SD 1300 IS. I have installed the CD that came with the new camera into my computer.(Windows XP). Now, here's the problem, when I try to download my pictures from the camera onto the computer, AND I have followed the step by step directions, but the camera window would not open up, so had to click start menu, all programs, camera utilites, camera window, camera window. The camera window was listed but would not do anything when I clicked on it, had to scroll down and opened the window for scanners and printers, ( I have a Canon PIXMA MP 480 printer). The pics downloaded, but all the pics from 10 days are listed numerically EG, canonsd1300 001, etc. or by IMG_0108 etc. Previously with my powershot A 1000, the message would say...Import images from camera...Import Untransferred Images,,,AND the pics would be listed/sorted by the date they were taken. That option of....Import Untransferred Images does not come up. PLEASE HELP, as I am getting very frustrated with this entire ordeal.

Hello,

Almost all cameras now have the plug and play functionality which acts like a USB Flash drive. What you can do is to check the camera under My Computer. It should show up under that list and you should be able to copy the files from there.

Let me know if this works for you.

I was taking photos when suddenly my Canon PowerShot SD 1300 IS IXUS 105 read "Lens error. Will shut down automatically. Restart camera." Then the screen went blank. The lens will not retract....

There is something wrong with your lens barrel. It can be anything from some sand/dirt that got inside in which you try using some canned air to blow out the particles while continually turning it on and off. Usually what it is from is the camera being dropped, even if it is in a case or inside a bad. The jostle or direct impact of the fall will break some small gears or tweak the lens off of alignment. If it was from an impact then you lens barrel needs to be replaced and in that case the repair cost are usually as much as getting a new camera. You can send it into Canon and get it repair for a flat rate. Sorry about your camera.

I purchased a used cannin SD 1300 digital camara and would like to know how to view pictures in the camera or how can I pull up each picture and look at it.

Press the Playback button (marked with a right-pointing triangle) located above the circular cursor pad.

Full details are in the "Viewing images" section of the manual (page 28 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at

I turned on powershot then opened the battery

If you install fresh batteries, close the battery door the lens should retract. If it did not, make sure the batteries installed are properly. And don't do that again you will lose all pictures on the card and may ruin the card permenently.

Lens does not move manually

You should not try to manually retract lens because lens has few gears in loading mechanism that can be broke if you put some force in try to rotate on lens.

Lens won't retract

Mine has done this twice, both times requiring it to be sent off for repair, both covered under warranty though luckily. Both came back saying they replaced the shutter assembly. Camera is fixing to go back out for a third time (not shutter related). I've lost all confidence in canon with this one.

Lens does not retract in play back mode

Never buy a Canon camera again. I have the same problem, and sorry that nobody has a solution. This is the worst of the 3 Canon digitals I have purchased. Lack of a view finder makes it impossible to preview shot when outside on a bright day.
