To add to Benmiur's solution, there are actually a few more steps involved with the OFA (One-For-All)..

Get a One-For-All universal remote that has a DVD key and a
"magic" key, such as the One-For-All-4.

* Select DVD device on OneForAll remote (OFA)
* Hold magic key until double flash on DVD key
* Enter device code 0533

The RDR-GXD500 DVD recorder must be set to command mode
"DVD1", and its own remote set to the same mode like this:

* Switch on recorder and point its own remote at it
* System-Menu -> Setup -> Options -> Command-Mode
* Select DVD1
* Set remote's Command-Mode switch to DVD-1
(it's under the sliding cover)
* Verify that recorder can be switched on and off with
both remotes

Now program function code 189 into button 1 of the OFA
remote like this:

1. Hold magic button until double flash on DVD key
2. Press 994
3. Press magic button (don't hold)
4. Press 189
For some remotes, all of the buttons you need to reprogram need to be prefixed by 00. So 1 would be '00189'
5. Press 1 - double flash indicates success

Advanced OFA remotes such as the Kameleon have five digit
function codes, in which case, press 00189 for step 4 above.

Now program function codes into buttons 2-5 like this:

* Repeat steps 1-3, then 255 2
* Repeat steps 1-3, then 095 3
* Repeat steps 1-3, then 221 4
* Repeat steps 1-3, then 079 5

Now the actual conversion of the RDR-GXD310 DVD recorder to
region-free:

* Put DVD recorder on standby and point OFA remote at it.
* Press 12345 - "TIMER OK" is displayed, and recorder
starts up
* Press 12345 - Recorder goes back to standby

The RDR-GX310 DVD recorder is now multi-region.

Hi,

with the indulgence of the others and much tnx to the point-to of Ekse....

You could try borrowing a One-For-All universal remote that has a DVD key and a "magic" key, such as the One-For-All-4.

* Select DVD device on OneForAll remote
* Hold magic key until double flash on DVD key
* Enter device code 0533

    If you cant do that you have to Set remote's Command-Mode switch to DVD-2 (it's under the sliding cover)

  • Ekse May 23, 2008

    Well thats it? what kind of problems come up to you when you try to change it?

    I suppose if you reset the player into factory detaults it would change the setting to the original.

Indeed, I did the same thing.... I did find the answer in the manual!
Here's a copy of it (pg 23):

Set the command mode for the remote so it matches
the command mode for the recorder you set above.
1 Hold down ENTER
2 While holding down ENTER, enter the
command mode code number using the
number buttons.
Command Mode Code number
DVD1 number button 1
DVD2 number button 2
DVD3 number button 3
3 Hold down both the number buttons and
ENTER at the same time for more than 3
seconds.
4 Let up, press RETURN, all done!

Can not get my sony dvd to get off of dvd1 and it is now locked u

Go to your DVR and manually turn the DVR off. Press the STOP button for
two or three seconds. The DVR COMMAND MODE setting will display in the
DVR window. (DVD1, DVD2 or DVD3)

Set the remote to the COMMAND MODE setting that was diaplayed by depressing
both the remote ENTER key and the desired number key (1, 2 or 3) and holding
them both at the same time for 3 seconds.

You can now use the remote to set the DVR to the desired COMMAND MODE.
To do this depress SYSTEM MENU on the remote and go to SETTINGS and then
COMMAND MODE. Select either DVD1, DVD2 or DVD3. Once you delect a setting
that is different from what was set, your remote will stop working again.

Reset your remote to the desired COMMAND MODE by depressing the remote ENTER
key and the desired number key (1, 2 or 3) and holding them both at the same
time for 3 seconds. The remote should now control the DVR.
