Check the filter for damaged element. If ok, make sure the filter is seated correctly and has a good seal between the filter and the mounting area. Make sure the motor housing is not damaged, or coming apart. Hope this helps!

Why is suction substantially reduced?

blockage in the suction line
if it is the wet mode there should be a valve (ball) that sucks up to stop water from getting to the motor when the receiver is too full. If you are in wet mode and still have the dust bag in place then the bag will be a solid block of mud and that will be the blockage.

Suction is greatly reduced. Why?

dirty filters or bad lid seal can do this , also items can stick inside your hose too blocking its way

Shop-Vac 6.0 hp Peak 12 Gallon 'Exploding' after 10 seconds of use. Happened twice on two different brand new Shop-Vacs.

Since you said you were sucking water out of a "trench" I would bet there was some debris in the trench that impacted the impeller on the vacuum and caused the metal impeller to fragment, taking the plastic pieces with it. It is highly unusual for this to occur on vacuums if some type of debris, such as a small stone or piece of metal does not reach the high speed impeller/fan. I suggest using either a foam sleeve over the filter cage, or an old nylon stocking if you can get one, to screen out the debris that will cause this condition.

My hose is on the suction side of the Ridgid Dry Vac but its still blowing out of the other hole. How do I fix this?

it is supposed to blow out the other hole. in order for a vacuum cleaner to suck things up, it also takes in air. That air passes thru a filter leaving the debris inside the canister, and then exits thru the other hole.

No vacumm pressure. the passages are clear and the motor runs but there is very little suction.

if you are certain no blockages ? and the dust collector is clear/clean ? have you checked that the outlet filter which is located inside dust compartment is clean/clear this is usually a gauze filter its purpose is - as vac works and draws dust into collector the air that is sucked up thro vac builds up in collector chamber or bag on most vacs? and so for vac to maintain suction the air has to be able to escape to atmosphere/room without dust which is left insude chamber/bag if fitted and so air escapes via the gauze vent as prev mentioned ? however if gauze filter is not clear to vent then vacuuum is restricted due to air drawn being unable to expel sometimes on vacs they will eventually cut off due to o/heat but will operate when cooled so may i suggest checking the above possibility ?

The power will not come one remotely!!

The reset is not the problem. If you have suction at the vac itself , but no elsewhere., you have blockage in your main line, or your hose. Try dropping a coin thru the handle of the hose and shake it all the way thru the other end. If your hose is clear the obstruction is in your piping. If your hose is clogged you must back out the blockage by sucking it back thru the handle.
Go to each inlet with a coin and touch the contacts inside the throat of the inlet...., 2 little brass spring loaded pins. If you can feel suction move on one inlet at a time. If you have no suction at any inlet your blockage is in the main line. If you have suction at some inlets , your blockage is in a branch. Try to pinpoint the closest inlet to the vac where you have no suction. Then put another vac like a shop vac up to the inlet and **** the blockage back out if possible. ..What wedges in must back out the way it went in. Post back with more info if this doesn't work

Ridgid 16.5 gallon motor running with no suction

When you use the shop vac for cleaning up water you must remove the filter.

The filter is for dust particles not for water
I would replace your filter and dump the water out from the shop vac, Also after each time you vacuum up water dump it out of shop vac.

I hope this helped you happy new year!

Can't install a bag for my Craftsman 16 gallon shop-vac

Well, good news, you don't need a bag! The trash just settles to the bottom of the bucket and you just dump it out.

I own one of these -- it has many little operational anoyances -- like wheels falling off, lid popping off, etc. If you run into these scenarios and want help on fixes, drop me a line.

Would you please rate my response. I think you'll see some icons at the bottom of the post to enter a rating.

thanks...

Shop Vac not working well

The only thing after the filter and bag is the motor. Do you have suction with the hose removed? If not then the hose is clogged. If you have some, then the motor is the problem.
