I HAVE A BLACK STREAK DOWN THE LEFT SIDE OF PAGE. REMOVED THE COLOR & BLACK PCU AND INTERMIEATTE TRANSFER ROLLERS. CLEANED ALL AND ALL SEEMED WELL, REINSTALLED ALL. OPENED THE FRONT AND REMOVED THE FUSING HOUSING AND CHECKED THE BELT THERE TOO. NOW WHEN I POWER UP I GET ERROR SC 544?

There's no opportunity to enter the menu. Checked the manual for a hard reset and found nothing. The error comes up just when the rollers start to turn and would have normally entered the calibration mode. It still seems like a roller or gear is stuck and drawing to much power. But I have removed and installed all expendables and the all seat well and cleanly. So the real question is what is error SC 544 and what would a tech do about it?

Check and make sure the parts were connected properly again, then try the following steps: press the yellow button 2 times, then press the red buttons for about 5 seconds, then try to turn off and turn on the printer again.

suspecting this is related to the fuser or rollers. you may need to get a fuser replacement, though try to check for thermostats and make sure they are properly seated. by the way, what is your printer model and let us see if we can find more information about it.

Normally you will need to let the printer know that you have preformed any maintenance on it by clearing the error count after such an error occurs and is fixed it is normally listed under general or service options on the printer menu but you may need to look through the users manual

hope this helps

In my experience, the fuser has always been the cause of the lines.

How to clean HP4100 TN laser printer? I am getting black streaks down side of page. . .ink is smeared.

There are 3 things to be checked. 1: toner cartridge, try replacing it with a new on. 2: Transfer roller w/c underneath the toner cartridgelying on the printer. Removed toner cartridge, you see a roller w/c is foam like outlook, wipe it with clean dry lint free cloth or paper towel. 3: Fuser unit w/c fuse the ink on the paper. It is lacoted at the back of the machine.Remove the bottom rear cover, just by pulling it. Then you will see 2 blue color lever on left & right, turn those levers up to unlock the fuser unit, then pull out the unit. taking a look in the inner part of the unit you will see rollers . Any bad coating or damage on the roller will create smears on the prints.

Balck and white streaks on left side of paper

Usually if there are streaks you need to change the pcu that is the same color as the lines. If the streaks are gray it also could be the fuser, but i would think it is the pcu.

WHITE STREAK SOWN LEFT SIDE OF PAPER RICOH CL3500

I will try to explain what is happening here. Basically, the PCU's are what puts the toner to the paper. As the parts spin, if there is clumped up toner in there, you will get the "light" streaks on your print out and the streaks will run the entire length of the page for that 1 color (or black). If this is your problem, then here is what I do.

This is messy, get a plastic bag - preferable something you can see through.

Get a feel for where the opening slider is on the top of the PCU and slide it open and hold it open in the bag.

Turn the PCU upside down and shake out all of the loose toner, you will have to turn the unit "to and fro" while shaking and banging it lightly.

Sometimes this will free up the clump of toner that is built up in between the sides of the toner trap and the roller. There's 1 roller that is constantly "dipped" in toner and the other roller that pulls the toner that is needed off of the "dipped" roller to apply to the paper. The one that is "dipped" is having the toner rubbed off by a clump of toner prior to getting to the other roller therefore only transferring a reduced amount of toner where the buildup is.

I have also on the Black PCU have removed the top 2 screws, taken off the green end cap (watch for the 2 plastic plugs that will fall), flicked the spring clips off of both ends and removed the 1 gear to pull out the roller assembly inside the PCU and used a high pressure blower (or canned air) to clean out any clumps. I don't recommend this to anyone that is not mechanically inclined. You can try to blow out the unit through the small slider opening on the top, but you may not get to the part where the streak is.

Good luck. Be sure to rate this post if it helps.

Smudge on left side of paper

It seems like your PCU's are dirty and are picking up extra toner. Take them out and look at the green rollers, any extra finger prints or dirt on them? Clean them with a clean paper towel.

Also, check your transfer unit below the PCU's, that may need cleaning or replacing. You can pull that out after removing both PCUs, turn the little screww and look at it. That can also be cleaned with a cleaning wipe or a damp paper towel. There's a little tab that you can turn to free the rollers (they'll still be a little tight) bu then you can turn the rollers to expose more surface area.

Good luck. Be sure to rate the post if it works for you.

Black Lines running down the right side outside of the print area

It may be the fuser. Take it out and inspect the roller on it:

  1. Switch off the device, disconnect the mains plug and wait for 30 minutes before continuing.
  2. Ensure that the bypass tray is closed, or you will not be able to open the front cover.
  3. Open the front cover by pressing the release buttons as shown.
  4. Pull the front cover down towards you.
  5. Disconnect the green plug - squeeze the sides of the plug and pull.
  6. Push the left and right levers outward to unlock the unit.
  7. Pull the unit towards you as shown and lift it clear of the device.
  8. Check the roller for wear marks, If so replace it.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Most of the time when I find this happening on a printer, not just Ricoh's it turns out to be the PCU (photo conductor unit). The color PCU is one unit and the black is a seperate unit. Hope this helps.

White streaks in print outs

Check transfer roller, or change black cartidge, if it only happens to the black then there is something wrong with that part of the process.
