I bought a wine cooler with a peltier element for reduced vibration, your "expert" come with a replacing it by a coke vending machine ?!

maybe you have someone from the elctronics department?? what are the two leds at the back indicationg, some malfunction ??

  • janwilmsoost Sep 17, 2010

It is the Baumatic BW18 - no further model details - running on 220V
Everything funtions, the fan hums and the humming changes if I turn the hi/lo button on the upper-right frontside.
At the back (after removing the panel) there is a tiny piece of electronics with a green and red led alight. A heavily glued (with epoxy I guess) glass fuse that looks OK, a huge peltier that may or may not be broken. Air filters are clean.
At the inside the light is on and the temperature is ambient.
The Baumatic BW18 wine cooler is not cooling - that is the problem

  • janwilmsoost Sep 17, 2010

come on, this machine has no condensor but works with a peltier

  • janwilmsoost Sep 17, 2010

previous expert babbled about a condensor after I told him the Baumatic BW18 has a peltier element

  • janwilmsoost Sep 18, 2010

The Baumatic BW18 has no compressor, but a peltier-element for cooling. The humming is the fan. Your advise is not relevant

  • janwilmsoost Sep 18, 2010

Yet another expert that does not understand that the BW18 has a peltier element and therefore not a condensor, nor freon etc etc.

    One more strike to go

  • janwilmsoost Sep 19, 2010

I have reported it in full detail three times - what info did you already get? do you know anything specificabout the Baumatic BW18, or on peltier elements? This is not a fridge, it has no condensor, no freon

The soft humming your hearing could possibly be the compressor stalling.. this can come from a lack or freon. Now this is the first thing you should check as its one of the most common issues in all refrigerant systems.. to do this there is a check port that you connect a guage too and it will give the freon pressure. More than likely you will find it very low and needs re gassing.. before having it regassed I'd suggest that you have it checked for leaks as well ,, (it ran out of freon rather quickly no ??) have a technician come in and check these as he will have all the right tools and stuff needed for for the checking of gas pressure, the dye to check for leaks as well as the freon to regas it.. and if needed the solder to fix any leaks..

Oh,, Btw could alo be the compressor it self is shot,, but lets hope its just the gas.. (cheaper to fix) if its the compressor you will have to

    • change compressor

    • check for leaks

    • regas..

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Sep 17, 2010

Thats why it isnt cooling as well.

The compressor overheating safety switches it off for protection from overheating and result in complete damage of the compressor.
One and most possible reason is the condenser is full of dust.
Turn on the back of cooler and either sweep away or vacuum dust that is readily accessible.
This easy cleaning should be done at least once a year for most efficient operation.

If you stiil have no cool then when you listen closely you hear a click with a buzz, another little click and then nothing for a few minutes. Then the same thing starts all over again. You fear the worst and you are probably correct. The compressor has decided that it will not start anymore.

When this happens, sometimes it is the fault of the capacitor or the start relay. There is about as good a chance that changing these components will work as it is that it will not work. If you can do the changing your self then you should get the parts and do the work. You have half a chance that it will work. If you will need to pay someone else to do the work then you need to look hard at what it will cost you and what the unit is worth, then decide to take a chance or not.

Loss of the refrigerant charge will also cause the compressor to overheat. It is the cool return gas coming back to the compressor that helps to keep it from overheating.

As you can see there are many things that can go wrong with an air conditioner and I have not come close to exhausting the possibilities here. I have just touched on the most common problems in a very basic way.
There are some basic trouble shooting things that can be done very easily. Most problems are above out of the range of comfort for many homeowners and professional help should be consulted before any attempt is made at repairs. Remember also, that the release of refrigerant gases into the atmosphere is a federal offense in the US. Proper care must always be taken to minimize the release of any gases. A license is also required to handle refrigerants. Make sure that the professional you call has the proper certifications to handle refrigerants properly

Not sure, but did you clean the filter in the back? Ours has that, and the temp starts creeping up every few weeks until I clean it. But we've never been able to get it below 58 or so, and in the last year, not below 60. I think that's just the nature of this type of cooling. Our house is also at 80. But, can keep it at 60 with the above cleaning.

My Haier 12 wine bottle cooler is dead. No fan or cooling .

Check the 2 fuses, one covered with black heat shrink, next see if internal fan is spinning, inside door, the 2 fans on the back should spin when first plugged in. also the 2 led's red and green should light up...if internal fan doesn't spin then check or replace, use batteries to get it to spin as a test...good luck, safety first...

You'll need to replace the fan. The original fan bearings wear our after a couple of years. It's pretty simple to drill out the rivets and replace the fan. I suggest you replace all four with ball-bearing fan units.
