Pump is only creating about 1/2 capacity. I have checked all seals etc., do the impellers on these pumps wear out? The pump is about 4 years old.

The impellers only usually get damaged with extreme cavitation. You most likely have a clogged impeller. It sometimes happens when the pump basked is cracked or damaged and it lets debris through to the impeller. You may have to remove the bolts and separate the seal plate from the wet end to access/inspect the impeller.

How to fix impeller

You did not say what the issue with the pump is but generally speaking it is easier to replace the whole pump because:
1. The impeller is machine matched to the wear rings or the volute.
2. The seals will need to be replaced.
3. If there is damage to the impeller then it may be out of balance.
4. Some special tools may be required.

Why can't I get the pump to prime and pump?

Replace ANY orings, gaskets, or seals in front of pump. The Suction/Inlet side.
Replace the Shaft Seal, that is the one between the motor and the Wet End. Right at the impeller.
check for wear or slippage, or breakage of the impeller.
good luck.

How many impeller fit on the pump

Impellers, vary. You can't put any impeller on a motor! Things to take into consideration for proper water movement / hydraulics, is the different parts of the volute: where the tide housed. You have the:
  • Impeller
  • Diffuser
  • Wear Ring
  • Shaft Seal
  • Seal Plate
The impeller also had to match the HP! If impeller is oversized, the motor will be over worked! If impeller is under sized, then the motor will work effortlessly, but is a waste, because it should at least be at capacity. Even if within the same manufacturer, impellers vary widely. So, find the correct impeller and use it.

How to unclog a shellback laundrytray pump 3 -12-19

1) disconnect power and place towels etc underneath everything
2) break discharge pipe(should be a union fitting for servicing)
3) undo big brass nut under sink basket
4) undo 4 hex head bolts holding pump housing together(sometime can be picked out via inlet and discharge
5) Dont try and take impeller off as the ceramic washer may come off and then you got to get a new one. If motorshaft is rusty, time for a new motor, seal and probably an impeller seal. ceramic impeller seal is epoxied on the impeller

I have an air leak in intake line

Question:

What do I do if my pool/spa pump is loosing suction or prime?

Answer: by Osko Pool n Spa Pool Pump Losing Suction or Prime If your Swimming Pools Filter system looses Prime, it is caused by one of the following conditions.
Note: The lost of suction/prime is caused a leak which in turn sucks air into the system. The lost of suction/prime will be anywhere from the Main Pool Skimmer(s) to the Pool Pump. It will NOT be from the Pool Pump to the Pools Main Return(s).
1) First make sure that your water level is high enough so that the skimmer is not sucking air.
2) Check the Pump Pot Housing Lid Seal and be certain that its completely sealing and is not
Sucking air into the system. Check the lid for cracks. If either condition is true, replace the Pump Pot Lid Seal and/or entire lid
3) Check all fittings, clamps and hoses from the pools skimmer to the Pools Pump Pot Housing for wear, tightness and leaks.
4) Check Pool Pump Pot Housing for cracks.
If everything aforementioned in good working order, the next thing to check is the Pump Pot Housing Main Seal and the Pumps Impeller and finally the pump.

5) While the Pool Pump Motor is running, carefully inspect the area where the Pump Pot Housing attaches to the Pump Motor. See if there is any water leaking. Next, spray the area with water and see if the water is sucked into the Housing. If so, your Main Seal is damaged.
6) Disassemble the front half of the Pump Pot Housing from the back half and inspect the Pump Motor Impeller. (This is a high suspect part). See if there is any sign of wear or breakage. (This happens over time from debris in the water passing over the impeller). If so, your Impeller is damaged.
7) Re-inspect the Pump Pot Housing Main Seal by standing the partially disassembled upright, with the Pump Motor towards the ground. Pour water over the impeller and into the cavity. See if the water leaks thru to the outside of the Pump Pot Housing. If so, your Main Seal is damaged.
8) Remove the cover from the rear of the Pump Motor. Using a large standard blade, (straight), screwdriver or wrench... turn the main motor shaft. Listen for grinding and/or rumbling and feel for any restrictions while turning. If you hear or feel either, your bearings and/or brushes are damaged.
If everything seems to be in good working order, then you need a new pump... not just replacement parts

I'm looking for a replacement impeller for a 1 1/2 hp centrifugal pump (for irrigation) and the only info I have for the pump a partial plate on the electric motor. This pump probably is about twenty years...

Hi, If you have removed the old impeller, the part number will be in the center. If wear has obliterated the part number, then the replacement impeller will be either spx1610-c for medium head or spx1611-c for a high head. Later models of super pumps will have a 2600 series of numbers for the upgraded drive train. However, the 1600 series drive train parts are still available.

With the pump off, take out the pump basket and with your fingers
feel the front of the impeller you may have something blocking it.
