Power supply on Gateway Laptop is not recognized, will only run on Battery

I had my laptop on, closed it and sat it down,
then 2 minutes later I picked it up and it was running on battery. It is
still currently plugged in but will only run on battery. It was working
fine 2 minutes before. I tried different outlets and triple checked the
power cord. The power port doesn't feel lose, and the laptop doesn't
leave my living room. Please advise. I bought this last September at Best Buy should I take it back?

YES, take it back.

It should still be on Warranty. Anything that you try to do will void the Warranty.

Note: Power supplies for a laptop are notoriously expensive.

My laptop was one year old last december. my battery stopped charging the same week it became one year and the guarantee expired. having no exta time, i took the laptop to the store 5 days after...

I would strongly suggest the good old battery 'hard reset'...

1.) Turn off laptop
2.) Unplug it from power supply
3.) Hold down the power button for a minute
4.) Plug it back into the power supply
5.) Power it on and wait to see if the battery icon is showing up and charging

This has resolved a few of these ghost battery issues on some of my clients laptops! If that fails, please provide the exact model number of the Gateway laptop and which operating system you're using and we'll see if we can't find another fix.

Hope this helps,
Joe

My Gateway M-6750 laptop was working last night but today when I tried to turn it on the power button light flashes on and off and nothing else. I have unplugged it and removed the battery and held down...

Remove the main battery and the power supply charger, allow a few minutes to get rid of any residual charge. Replace the battery, press power, if there is no change, remove the battery. Now plug the power supply back into the laptop, press the power, if it starts up the battery is bad and needs to be replaced.

Gateway computer - cannot boot up--

At boot up press F2 and enter BIOS. Here check if your HDD is recognized. If yes Ten your Windows is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled. How to install and save your data follow the link below:
Crashed Windows : No Problem
If the HDD is not being recognized then run Auto Detect to recognize the HDD. If it works fine, if not then the HDD may need a change.

Gateway nv52 won't turn on

I also had this problem. I turned it off and it would not turn on. I found the solution. First, extend the laptop screen as far back as it will go. Don't just stop the screen at a ninety degree angle. My laptop screen pulls back to about 135 degrees. Now press the power button. It should start up.

Why do I think this works? Well...I used to own an older model thinkpad that had a short "male" connector on the screen, that when the screen was folded down would enter into a "female" connector on the base of the unit and trigger sleep mode on the unit. This is how the system could automatically hibernate when the screen was closed. The little male connector broke off, and I couldn't get the system to wake up, because the connection to tell the laptop that I had the screen up or down no longer worked. I couldn't even power it up. I had to take an ink pen and push the connector through the female end to indicate to the motherboard that I'd opened the screen before it would even turn on.

It appears that the same type of mechanism is built into the long BAR under the screen of the NV52 and somehow it can't determine when the screen is open or closed. If it detects that the screen has not been opened, it won't power up. This safeguard prevents the laptop from being turned on mistakenly while closed up in your laptop bag. Extending the screen back resets the mechanism and it should turn on. Sorry for the long explanation...

Will not power up

I think your laptop is having some loss contact inside the Motherboard in between power supply or battery.
Usually just like this and later on it power up again normally.
My advice is you send it to gateway to see your laptop for working it properly. I do it's only a little adjustment on your laptop to them.
Good luck!

Hi there.
Take the battery out and try to boot on AC power only, if it boots up, turn it back off and reinsert the battery and try to boot again.
If it still suffers from the same symptoms please post back for more advice.

Good luck
