Re: DVD player isn't loading and playing properly
Since it will play eventualy, I'd suspect a dirty lens. Open up the unit and carefully clean the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Also, try a music CD. If the CD works flawlessly but DVDs still fail occasssionally, the optics are starting to fail and will need to be replaced.

no the coding would not change from using the dvd's from overseas. the ones that you say are american may not be american and that is most likley the problem. try putting in a dvd that you have had for a long time that you bought here in the states and if that works then the dvds you say are american are the problem.
These units use a belt for the loading mechanism. If the belt slips at all, the loading will not complete and lock. This will prevent the unit from reading the disc. Try loading a music CD. If hte CD plays ok, then the optics assembly is in need of at least a cleaning or replacement.
All you have are common problems anywhere. Make sure DVD discs are not pirated or not digitally copied. Most players like DVDs are quite sensitive. Most likely, laser lens are dirty or covered with dust. The best way to eliminate the problem is to clean your lens by using disc cleaner available in the market somehow. Drop a small amount of solution on the little brush adhered at the disc itself, load the disc into the tray, like a normal you play and push the botton PLAY , Some cleaner has an audio or video , so that you will be know the operation or further instructions.
Hope this will help solve the problem... Good luck.
This might be a problem with the alignment of the actual laser in your device. You mentioned that you cleaned the player? Question, how? The reason I ask is because if you used alcohol and canned air you many have left a residue on the laser facet which would cause such a problem. I would suggest that you use an apporved fiber optic cleaning solution and attempt to clean the laser, (it is best to let a pro do this). Then check the laser alignment and power with a laser power meter.
