Question about Lite On Laars Lite 2 Heaters: 250,000BTU MV Heater

2 Answers

Laars Lite 2 (2005 new): You can hear the electric ignition click on, sending a spark that ignites the gas which starts the heater blower to turn on. After 3 - 5 second, the heater turns off, just stops and wont stay on. The main blower never stays on long enough to heat. Every single internal part has been changed out or cleaned. Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi,
Check the position of the flame sensor, which sometimes is the tip that the spark comes off of...the flame must touch the sensor when the pilot ignites... this passes a small signal current back to the ignition box...through the flame... if the flame is not steady or pulls off of the sensor it will shut down instantly...also the path back to the ignition must be good with no corrosion anywhere...this signal is only a few MV and so it does not take much to stop it...
These problems are very troublesome and require many hours and tons of patience to solve....I've been there....
Just a thought.. have you changed the pressure switch for the blower? Sometimes they will not hold closed ....

Flame sensor. Make sure it is properly earthed and check its connections to the ignition control unit. Also check the ignition control unit itself for dry joints(resolder the joint to fix) and cracks on the pc board.
Water pressure switch. Can be bridged to ensure it is not the culprit. Disconnect it from the electrical circuit and connect the wires that were leading to it together. Do not operate this unit in this way for extended periods of time unless you have done a temperature rise test

If your unit is fitted with the Millivolt system check that you have 0.5 to 0.6Volt across the pilot generator wiring connectors (Red and white wires). If not clean the pilot flame orifice.

Laars lite 2 Spark egnighter will not spark

turn power off first. I would disconnect igniter wire which will be a thick orange wire that comes off of ignition module if it is spark. once you have that the end will look like a spark plug wire take shield away from metal then hold orange wire in hand close but not touching metal turn power on and it will take a couple of minutes before it should start sparking. If you don't see a spark then it is most likely the ignition module. There should be a red light on ignition module that will blink to tell you what the failure is if is is a newer on. When you turn power on to laars light 2 the inducer motor should come on then a pressure switch should send 24volt to gas valve for pilot to lite. Can you smell gas at all when laars should be igniting. If you have any questions fell free to email me back
