From your description i understand that you have a CRT projection tv. In that case you will find in the menu a section dedicated specifically to correct that - it's called Convergence. In there you can adjust the red to match with the other colors.
If the adjustments you do there don't have effect (or the effect isn't stong enough to eliminate the problem) then the Convergence board is faulty and must be replaced. In that case it's time to call a technician - it's a complicated job, best to be left to a pro.

You need this kit - $65.

A good hand on solderings is mandatory.
A new board will be around $250 but will be very difficult to find for a such an old tv.

Double check all the blue 3.9 ohm blue resistors in front of the two STK-392-570 CHIPS. If even one is bad--they can be checked like checking a fuse---the set will not adjust in some way. See other information......

If the set still turns on the protect fuses are good. It is also possible if the resistors are good you may have got a new chip that is bad--this does not happen very often but it can happen. When you see the other information let me know if you have questions.

If this has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for Free.

Red and green double vision

This is a convergence problem that is either poor solder connections on the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder and are comfortable working inside the set where there are ptentially dangerous high voltages present even when unplugged, you can fix this yourself.

Please let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I'll supply additional details and instructions.

Double vision on my Mitsubishi 46 inch width screen--TV is 5 years old

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Phillips tv , double vision,

You have bad convergence IC's. Replace both the red and blue drive chips. They are easy to spot. They are mounted to large, finned heat sinks. The # on the chips starts with "STK-" and then there are numbers following. Both red and blue use the same part. There are 20 or so pins to unsolder\solder. These parts are available to the consumer from tritronicsinc.com. Good Luck!!

Double vision

It looks like the convergence ICs need to be replace. The IC markings are STK392-040 and are mounted on 2 big aluminum heatkinks. This might not be a DIY if you do not have any hand soldering experience. This repair will cost you around $300.00 to $400.00 if you have a TV technician to do it.

Your Convergence is off. Go through the menue to the CONVERGENCE and follow the on screen instructions.

Start with the RED gun and align each cross point starting with the upper left corner.

You will be pulling the red to match the green.

If the television shuts down during this process, it will reset the convergence and you can try again.

After you get the red gun perfectly aligned with the green, start with the blue.

follow the on screen directs and don't forget to store.

Use the remote for these adjustments.

I hope that this helps..
