Unit was working fine and then all of a sudden just stopped cooling, I went outside and the fan was off. I tried turning the temp down and the outdoor fan would not come on. Do I need a new Fan motor?

If you can get your hands on a mulit-tester with a voltmeter, test the wires to the fan. If there is power to the fan, and fan is not, on, it is faulty. If no power to the fan, then control board or a possible relay could be faulty.

Outside unit will only run for a short amount of time with A/C before the fan stops turning and starts humming, squealing/screeching and the top of the outside unit gets hot.

The bearings are bad in the motor and after the fan runs enough it eventually gets hot, making the bearing screech and the fan locks up. Need to replace motor again. See if it has a warranty. The reason it gets hot is because the fan is what removes the heat from the coil and if the fan isn't running there is nothing to cool it off so to speak.

PTAC stops running after a short time

Sounds like a voltage or amp draw issue. So how about if you only try to run the blower??

McQuay PTAC stops working after short time

Sounds like you need a new control board with thermistors. you probably have a relay that is getting hot and quitting.

Check and make sure the outside fan is running. The KSR series Kelvinators were rebadged LG units. It is possible the 6uf fan capacitor on the outside unit has failed.

It is a Bryant Legacy AC unit. Model #123RNA060-B. It has been running fine, now it has suddenly shut down. The interior fan is working, but the fan at the compressor shuts down. It will work fine for...

I had a unit do the same thing to me, everytime I would leave, it would stop working again. I had a bad fan motor that would spin fine and work for a little while, but would shut down. It was the motor windings that would overheat and shut off, as soon as they cooled, it would start back up. One way to check is to feel the top of the unit where the base of the fan mounts and see how hot it is, best to check while it's not working how it should, but try not to run it very long or you could damage the compressor. Hope this helps!

Is your condensing unit located in a well ventilated area and have an ample space, atleast a foot, from the rooftop flooring? Just make a check that free flowing outside air properly ventilates the condensing unit specially on high ambient temperatures. Hope this would solve your problem

Cooling on and off

Behind the filter there should be a small metal tube that senses the temp. entering the unit sometime this is too close to the metal fins and sense the cold from the fins and not the air coming in. Make sure this is away from the fins and try a different temp. setting. And relocating the unit. These units tend to give off more heat that cooling because the hot air is returned to the inside of the room and not vented outside like window units. This is an  EdgeStar 12,000 BTU unit, correct?
