Many of the power jacks also contain switch contacts that allow the adapter to power both the laptop and the "charging" system. I would suspect that one of the leads had either been broken or at least detached from the pc board. This laptop needs to be dis-assembled and the power jack repaired. Worse case will result in the replacement of the jack or the repair of the board if that part has been cracked.

Asus k55a-rbr6 Cd Drive not recognized in Devices and Printers, will not run any CD.

The Asus K55A-RBR6 optical drive uses the Windows built-in driver. The drive may have failed or it could have a power or cable issue. To check for a power issue, try ejecting the optical drive by pushing the disc tray into the computer. If the drive tray ejects and retracts, it has power.

First, go to the Device Manager and check if there are any driver issues identified by Windows. (Click Start > Control Panel (in the right hand column. Click on either System and Security > System or Hardware and Devices and then select the Device Manager. Expand the section for DVD/CD-ROM drives and look for a yellow triangle with an exclamation point or a red triangle with an x. Try to uninstall the driver and then reboot the machine. Windows will try to restore the driver. (You should alsocheck Windows Update for any optional drivers. Start > Control Panel > System > Windows Update.)

Check that you have installed the latest available BIOS upgrade (407), from http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K55A/#support .

The laptop uses a SATA slimline internal optical drive. The drive needs a power connector from the internal power supply and a SATA cable connected to the motherboard. You can access these if you disassemble the laptop. You may want to try just replacing the drive (~$25 at many vendors). If the second drive doesn't work, then try replacing the SATA cable and make sure it's well seated at the motherboard and the optical drive. There aren't extra power cables in most laptops but you should check for damage. Alternatively, get an external USB optical drive to replace the internal drive.

I hope this helps.

How do I connect my laptop to a Monitor

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

It is most likely your drivers are not correct or not up to date.
I'd do a search for your model to get the correct updated driver installed for your operating system.

could also be the software you are using to burn.
Most computers come with something like neroburn which should work for a basic install but may have some issues with certain types of CDs. I'd try to just write one small file onto both a re-writable and a write only desk and see if it make a difference. You could always downlaod a freeware cd burner and see if it is a software issue.

sincerely dought it is your cable connections but you can make sure the IDE is connected all the way on each end, but if it's running it shouldn't be the cables.

Laptop doesn't recognise DVD rewriter - LG

If your laptop dont recognise dvd rewriter it may be due to many reason it may either due to Ide cable or a registry issue or a hardware issue .Try following steps :

1 make sure you have correctly inserted the IDE and Power Cables. Fault of putting the IDE cable in the wrong way around make this happen.
2 Make one drive the the Master and the other the Slave, don't set both to Cable Select.

Is it not recognizing the drives in the BIOS or Windows? Try changing IDE cables?

If BIOS, have you gone into the BIOS and verified that the drives are detected? Try changing the BIOS settings for the IDE Channels from AUTO to CD_ROM. At least then, from a hardware viewpoint, you are forcing the system to recognize.

3 If you have an older player, check with the manufacturer to see whether an update to the firmware is available. Many newer DVD titles with lots of special features are famous for causing problems on older players.

4 If its a registry issue then try following steps but remember first take back up of your registry
Start the Run Command Prompt

Type in "regedit" without the parrenthesis then click ok

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Then SYSTEM

Then CURRENT CONTROL SET

Then CONTROL

Then CLASS

Then find {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

The whole thing looks like this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Then delete the upper and lower filters....

RESTART YOUR COMPUTER THEN THERE YA GO!!!! HOPE THIS HELPS

Installed a new power suply on HP a1616n. Now no DVD recognition

You state that you have installed a new power supply. Check whether you have all the cables securely. One is a power cable and the other is a flat SCSI cable connecting your DVD drive to the motherboard.

Wont work

Dear Mitodelvalle,
Here are few things that you might want to check:
  1. Open the chassis of the computer and make sure that the cables that go to the drive are properly connected .. there should be 2 connectors.. One for Power supply with 4 wires and one is a ribbon cable for data. Make sure that the power supply cable is properly connected. you might want to remove and plug it back just to be sure.
  2. If that doesn't work then most of the computers come with a spare power connector hanging loose, you might want to try the spare connector.
  3. Try ejecting the optical drive by inserting pin in to the small hole in the front of the optical drive, just below the tray... Straighten a paper clip and insert it straight into the pin hole below the optical drive's tray and the drive should eject, then pull the trey out gently with your hand and make sure that nothing is broken inside...
Try the above steps and that should help. If you still need assistance, please let me know and I would be glad to assist you further.

Regards,
Srinivas.

DVD drive does not show up in Computer drive list

Sounds like a cable or CD hardware issue. If you are comfortable taking apart the laptop yourself, disconnect /reconnect the cable or replace the CD cable. It's hard to update the driver if the system doesn't see the drive. Or, you could replace the drive. It's really hard to know which is the problem without testing.
