Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GS Router (e125894)

2 Answers

My router was working fine for some time. Came home from being away and had issues. Comcast reset cable/digital phone modem and said since it works now directly to the laptop without the router they're done. I called Linksys and they want $30 to check settings which havent changed. Need to get this working since I wah and need both computers up (home and work). Do I need to worry about the settings? I did check online and I dont see anything unusual. Linksys says the router appears to be working fine so they want $$ to walk me through the process.

I reset the router and used WPA setting and re-entered my password. Says it's connected to my network but I still cant get on the internet wirelessly. Says connected local. When I see the graphic it has a big red x between my network and the internet icon. The only way I can connect is direct from cable modem to laptop. Are there another other settings I need to worry about or do I just go buy another wireless router?

Hi. Please verify all the connections and follow the procedure below.

all the best!

Instructions

  1. 1 Connect to your DSL modem by typing the modem's Internet protocol (IP) address or host name in your Web browser. Refer to your manual for the specific IP name.
  2. 2 Set your modem to be in "Bridge mode." The setting for this varies from modem to modem, but is typically found in the connection or network settings.
  3. 3 Remove the Ethernet cable connection from the computer, then attach it to the "Internet" port on the Linksys router.
  4. 4 Connect an Ethernet cable to the "1" port on the router. Connect the other end to the port you removed the cable from in Step 3.
  5. 5 Visit "192.168.1.1" in a Web browser.
  6. 6 Change the "Local IP address" to "192.168.2.1," and click the "Save Changes" button. Type "192.168.2.1" into the Web browser's address bar and hit enter.
  7. 7 Click on "Basic Setup," then enter the user name and password assigned to you by your ISP, choose "PPPoE" from the drop box on top of the user name and password fields and then save your changes.

Ayt, there should be a reset button on the router where you press and hold it for at least 8 secs while the router is on. That should fix it. Now, you need to make sure that your router is secured to prevent unwanted access from neighbors and limits only access to your computers. to access it, connect a pc on the router via wire, open a browser and type http://192.168.1.1 on the address bar. It will open the router's configuration screen. from ther you can play around with security, Basic security for wifi is WEP or WPA but I would suggest MAC filtering for more security if you are familiar with MAC addresses. Post a comment if you need further details and instructions.
Hope this helps..

    Sorry for the late reply.

Have a cable connection first from the router. So the set up is, cable modem wired to the router and wired to the pc. Check if you are online. If yes, it is an issue with your wifi settings on the router, you need to reconfigure it and check the MAC filtering as well.
If you still cant go online with the wire connection from the router to your pc, most likely it is an issue with main configuration of the router. Make sure it is set to "automatic configuration- DHCP" and "enable DHCP Server" under basic set up. Check as well MAC filtering if there are any.

    Hope this helps.

I was banging my head for 2 days with about 35 different configurations and finally tried the following and it worked just fine. Also, tried connecting 3 computers and they all connected with "NO" issues. Even connected wireless with "NO" issues. Now I am at 20mb download speed...J compared to AT&T 1.5mb download speed.

This is my DLINK model -> (DIR-601 Wireless N 150 Home Router Wireless router)

1. Reset your Comcast Surfboard Cable Modem by unplugging it for 5 minutes.

2. Then reset your DLINK Router to the manufactures default settings. Then Unplug DLINK Router for 1 minute then plug it back in (Just plug your cat5 cable into port 1 and connect it to your computer) there should not be anything else plugged into the DLINK Router at the time you make the changes. Just 1 computer can be connected.

3. Went into the DLINK configuration 192.168.0.1 and changed the PPPOE setting that I was using for my AT&T Modem to Dynamic IP (DHCP). Once you make the changes save them and then unplug your DLINK Router it's off.

4. Turn on Comcast Surfboard Cable Modem and wait until all lights are on. Now plug in a cat5 cable from the Surfboard Comcast modem (NOT A CROSSOVER CABLE LIKE THE CD INDICATES) to the INTERNET port of your DLINK Router. Now turn on your DLINK router.

5. Then turn on your computers or restart them and it will pick up IP Addresses from your DLINK Router

The internet light is flashing on the rca dcm425 i reset it and the router and still cannot connect but the cable is working and the light just flashes

My RCA DCM425C from Comcast had the same problem when I came home Saturday, 11/14/09 (coincidentally the same day you posted). Had been working fine - cable TV still works fine including On Demand, etc. The Internet light was blinking. Occasionally I'd see it try to work from one light to three or four, but it always came back to one. Called Comcast, they said their side showed "no signal". Sent out a tech today. He replaced the cable modem, reprovisioned it (I guess if I had a backup ready I could have done the provisioning over the phone maybe?)), everything's great. Lasted about a year and a half. When I logged in via http://192.168.100.1, it said it was still in Step 1 of 5 ("Tuning"), and the logs showed a whole bunch of errors on Saturday that stopped after that. Diagnostics would always freeze the built-in web server and require reboot.

I have Comcast bundle service for my home that includes tv, phone and internet which is digital. Can I use the Sensaphone 400 with this digital system?

This model may not be used on a digital system. It can be used on a standard phone line only, only engineered to handle standard phone line with pulse or tone dialing. I hope this helps!

DHG535-2 and LAN switch issue

It sounds like the LInksys that they replaced was also a router. A router will route packets to multiple pc's that are connected to it. The cable modem just sees the router as 1 pc. When you use a switch, the cable modem will see all of your PC's. and Comcast just allows 1 pc. You will need to buy a router to use more than 1 PC which will be cheaper than using Comcasts Home Networking service which will network up to 4 pcs

Browser and email continuously won't load

I would have to say this is a problem with Comcast, call them and ask for a line test, tell them that you are having this problem on multiple computers, and you have even tried connecting directly to the modem. If they can run a test on the line, hopefully that will shed some light on the issue.

Often times with Cable/Phone companies, the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing, be instant that they check, at the very least they can check connection to your modem from their end.

Lap top not connecting to signial

Yes you can reconnect your router. Whoever did that at Comcast had no business doing that and should be reported and return their equipment back to Comcast asap. It could appear on the bill.

I have a Linksys modem on my Comcast router and it works fine. I don't let them touch it because it uses T-Zones at home service for phone use and it uses a special router to manage it since it has a sim card to run the phone line.

Vonage equipment can be used as well.

I wonder if they were trying to put their phone service onto your system?

I have a belkin n wireless router keeps freezing

First step of solution would be performing Reset. Press and hold the reset button about 30 seconds and release. Check again. If you need customized settings just type 192.168.2.1 in your browser and get into settings.

If issue persist please post for further troubleshooting.

Good Luck
