Question about Whirlpool WTW6400SW Cabrio Washer

1 Answer

I have a Cabrio washer model #WTW6200SW. After it starts, within a minute all lights flash on my dial and I get a F-50 code. Could you please explain what my problem may be? If I don't hear from you soon I will call the 800 number. I have a lot of laundry to do today. Thank You, Renee Rowe

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. F 50 flashes when the motor rotor position sensor (RPS) senses no rotation (Motor Stalled). Does basket turn freely? If not, make sure bottom shipping pack has been removed. Remove the basket and look for foreign object. If basket turns freely, then perform the below mentioned diagnostic test as per its repair manual--

Motor Circuit TEST

This test checks the wiring to the motor and rotor position sensor; and the motor and rotor position sensor themselves. NOTE: Drain water from tub.

1. See Activation of Manual Diagnostic Test Mode, and check the motor and electrical connections by performing the Agitate and Spin tests under Manual: Motor. The following step assumes that this step failed.

2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.

3. Check to see if basket will turn freely. If basket turns freely, go to step 4. If basket does not turn freely, determine what is causing the mechanical friction or lock up.

4. Remove the console to access the machine/ motor control assembly.

5. Visually check that the P5 and P10 connectors are inserted all the way into the machine/motor control. If visual checks pass, go to step 6. If visual checks fail, reconnect P5 and P10 and repeat step 1.

6. With an ohmmeter, check for 16 ohms resistance at the P5 connector between pins P5-1 and P5-2, and also between pins P5-1 and P5-3. Also measure the resistance at the P10 connector between pins P10-1 and P10-7 and verify that the resistance is within the range shown in the wiring diagram on page 7-1. If the resistance is correct, go to step 11. If the P5 connector resistance is much higher than 16 ohms, or the P10 connector resistance is out of range, go to step 7.

7. Tilt machine forward to access the bottom of the machine and the drive motor area. Remove the motor bolt, then the motor cover to access the motor connections.

8. Visually check the mounting bracket and electrical connections to the motor and rotor position sensor board. If visual check passes, go to step 9. If visual check fails, reconnect the electrical connections, reassemble stator and motor cover and repeat step 1.

9. With an ohmmeter, check for continuity between all pins on the P10 machine/motor control connector and the motor rotor position sensor (RPS) connector. If there is continuity, go to step 11. If there is no continuity, replace the lower machine harness.

10. With an ohmmeter, check for continuity between all pins on the P5 machine/motor control connector and the drive motor connector. If there is continuity, replace the drive motor. If there is no continuity, replace the lower machine harness.

11. The drive motor and lower harness are good. Replace the motor RPS board and perform the Diagnostics test in step 1 to verify repair.

12. If the Diagnostics motor test in step 1 failed, then the machine/motor control has failed: Unplug the washer or disconnect power. Replace the machine/motor control assembly. Perform the Motor Diagnostics in step 1 to verify repair.

Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

What does code uL mean. this comes on in the drain spin cycle

Hi, a UL error code means a load not balanced. The washer is running a load-balance correction routine. Please allow the washer to continue. If the dial is flashing and the washer has stopped, redistribute the load, close the lid, and press START/PAUSE.

Possible there are errors in the program memory. Power off the washer for half an hour, press and hold down the start button , then switch on. Try also with another program. Also check if the inlet filter is clogged and the water flow is good, if not clean. Also check the water level pressure sensor.

I keep getting an error code F 50 and all the green is lit around the dial. Water is spitting out but it does not seem to be rotating at all.

F then 50 flashes when the motor rotor position sensor (RPS) senses no rotation.
Does basket turn freely? If not, make sure bottom shipping pack has been removed. Determine cause of friction.

"LD" is a "Long Drain" error code. This is an indicaiton that you either have something lodged in the drainage system causing the drain pump not to drain, or your drain pump has failed. The washer will not complete the cycle until the condition that is causing the error is resolved. The Cabrio has two pumps. One is a recirc pump, the other is a recirc pump. The following link explains how to check the pump(s), or replace (if necessary):

You can order parts (if required) from any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Make sure you use a complete MODEL NUMBER to ensure you find the correct parts listing. The first three sites listed also include exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying any parts you may need. Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare.

If you do not find your model number listed at all the sites I have provided, use the part number from the Sears site for your search criteria. In some cases, the model number may not be listed, but the part numbers will.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

When I start the washer the dial flashes and says F1

Hi,

The "F1" error code on the Whirlpool cabrio is quite common, and generally has to do with the control board. Replacing the control panel may resolve this issue. However, I believe Whirlpool is aware of the F1 issue with the Cabrio, and is fixing some machines for free. Please call 1-800-253-1301 for more details and see if you are eligible for a free repair.

Thank you !!

Washer won't start

If unplugging the washer for a few minutes does not reset the main control then the electronic control board is likely shot but the only way to know for sure is to do some electrical testing with a volt/ohm meter and the wiring diagram located within the appliance.

This will help: Repair Manual - Cabrio top loading washer
