Question about Maytag Atlantis MDE7400AY Electric Dryer

1 Answer

The dryer turns on only after several attempts, seems to have a 'sweet' spot in the switch. If I have to take the switch off, how do I get the knob off?

What can cause an electric GE dryer to not start? Model number DCVH680EJ1WW. cogtinuity with motor switch, door switch, high limit fuse, thermistor & no cogn. with the thermodisc or heating element.

As a repair technician, just came across this crazy situation with GE / Hot Point / Moffat machines several times. It is all made by GE corporation.

The Dryer is not starting because your cycle selector knob is broken inside and it is just turning without turning the timer selector.

GE corporation machines are good. But those damn chinese plastic knobs break from inside. I have driven 50 km to find out the knob is broken. I had to charge the poor customer.

I have a Whirlpool electric dryer several years old (front loader) that just suddenly stopped working - the left side knob that you push to start stopped turning on the dryer. I have reset the breaker at...

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Sounds like your problem may be a broken belt, or the belt may have slipped off of the motor pulley, or idler arm pulley or a faulty motor.
If you have to check/replace/repair your drum motor, drum seals, belt, rollers, etc.
If replacing drum seals be sure to use a good grade of weather proof cement to hold the seal/s in place.
Note: This method works for most front loading machines.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch or other electrical connections.
Remove the lint filter and the screws that hold the filter housing.
Then remove the top of the dryer.
Note: Some of the tops tilt backwards and do not have to be removed completly.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.

99 gsxr 750 losing power after 10k rpm if you have

The carburetor jets, there are 3 bands; A low, mid range and high range rpms. 10k would fall in the Mid range power. I would let the bike warm up a little bit and tweak the middle knob on the left side of the bike and keep in mind you need the right mixture so turn it quarter turn one way at a time per testing the mid range rpms while riding, tweaking 1/4 turns in between tests. If it gets worse, turn it the other direction until you find that sweet spot in the mixture of fuel/oxygen. Tail lights and dash lights not working, due to headlight install

I have the same problem in an 88 Accord. I found that if I slowly turn the light switch, there is a sweet spot in between the the parking light and headlight on position (around halfway in between or so.) where all will work. The problem is , when I might a right turn signal, it turns the dash and brake lights out again and I have to refind that sweet spot. Not very safe, so we don't drive that car at night.
I was told by a mechanic that the issue is a relay or switching mechanism located in the steering column.

G.e. Profile gas dryer, wont turn on but has power

Some GE dryers use a non-resettable thermal fuse. It is a dime sized object with two wires attached on the top of the element housing. (Unplug dryer, take screws out or push in clips holding dryer top down at the front of the dryer top, swing top back, see thermal fuse near very back) Newer dryers use an automatic resetting thermal fuse. The replacement part for either will be the same auto resetting one. Your problem could be several other spots, however. Check for 240 volts at dryer. (not just 120) When you swing that top up, make sure the belt is there going around the drum. (if belt broke, it switches off power on most dryers) Could be a door switch, internal motor switch, timer contacts, bad start switch, burnt off / broken wire, maybe just a stripped over start knob.

If you find that the thermal fuse was the problem, you still should clean out the vent and eliminate all or as much flex duct as possible to prevent the thermal fuse from tripping again.

Dryer knob sticks in one spot- won't move

Door switch / Door switch actuator leverThe dryer would not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Check your model for more details.
