That is my problem with S1600, the S500 that i had was fine, select any apature. Dont think there is a fix, its the way its designed.
My S1600 USB connection failed after 6 months, although the guarantee was registered when i purchased it, Fuji wont repair it as i have lost the receipt. Not much pleased with that....Phil

Quantaray lense wont work on nikon D50

David -

The lowest setting is the highest number; f22 is lower than f4. It's little counter-intuitive, but the lowest setting means the least amount of light - or the smallest aperture opening - not the numerical "f" value of the opening.

Simply twist the aperture ring until the highest value "f" number is selected. Many lenses have a small tab or latch to lock them in this position - if yours does, you can use it to prevent this from happening again. You would use a command dial on most camera bodies to electronically change the aperture opening.

Good luck!

My fujifilm finepix s1600 all of a sudden is not lettin me see on the lcd screen what picture i am going to take??? i have replaced the batterys and still no show???

hi Does it mean no power at all? So then you have 50 and 50 chance repair for just brown fuse or main pcb replacement. Your local repair shop would charge around $45 to 145 depend on what they really want to charge. Thanks and best regard!

I have a fujifilm finepix s1600.i just wanted to know if i can blur the background for certain images.

To blur the background, you need a shallow depth of field, which requires a small aperture.

Select Aperture priority by moving the mode select dial to A
Press the +/- button, the shutter speed and aperture are displayed
press the selector up/down to select the aperture
press the +/- button to exit shooting mode

IF the selected aperture is outside the shooting range of the camera, shutter speed will show ---

I have a Nikon D60 and have just bought a 50mm AF 1.8 D lens but find I can only use the aperture setting at 22. Is that right ?? why can't I use the other aperture settings ??

The D60 camera sets and triggers the aperture that you have selected (or the camera has selected if in auto mode) and sets the aperture as you take the picture. Moving the aperture ring on the lens will not work, in fact once you move it from the f22 position the camera will stop or possible show and error. on my older Nikon AF lenses there is a small lock to lock the aperture ring in the lowest position when mounted on a digital camera, it is found near the f2.8 side of the aperture ring. when you want to set the apertures manually, you put the camera in aperture or manual mode and set the aperture you want by moving the the rotating wheel on the grip part of the camera. the aperture you select will show in the window, you do not have to move the ring on the lens,it must remain the f22(highest numerical) position.

Camera freezes when using aperture and speed

Try updating the firmware. The update does not specificly mention this problem, but maybe it will help anyway.
You can download it from here:

Make sure your batteries are fresh before updating.

My new fuji s1600 freezes when playing back photos and i have ot take batteries out to getit to swtich on and off and correct it?

Hi My brand new S1600 did exactly the same. Would freeze while displaying back Photos and had to remove batteries to unfreeze.
I solved the problem by updating the firmware from Version1.03 to 1.04 This is a known problem so why they sell cameras in the first place in this condition sucks
Go to This page for instructions and latest firmware versions
http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/firmware/s/finepix_s2500hd/fupd.html
Hope this helps
