I lost all my logs and cannot get or send a fax when i try to do anything, i get the message"the following error occurred when attempting to open a folder, call failed one or more files for that phonebook...

This error indicates corruption of data, would I would suggest is to backup your data files immediately, the biggest mistake many do is by copying files while WinFax is open. Make sure WinFax is closed, and the WinFax Service is stopped when you copy or move data around. It's a common error from the Symantec software. Try using the norton uninstall tool and then reinstalling.

This is a very bad idea from a security standpoint.
By poking a hole in your firewall you are going to allow a lot more than parents to access the student's data. Once you do that I know that I could access every single computer on the internal network. Trust me, I work in IT security.

I am sure if you tell the parents that accessing the reports will endanger their children they will re-evaluate there needs.

Find a dedicated IT security professional and work with them to find a safe way for parents to get this data. For example, an automated email list that will send reports to parents is a much safer solution. Another method is to utilize a DMZ.

I am sorry to be the one to say this it but if you are coming to FixYa.com for security solutions you are way out of your league.

If I found a hole like this in my kid's school network I would sue the school!

Turns out the whole problem was related to my version of Norton (which I have run/updated without problem since 2005) suddenly becoming defective. Once I removed Norton with their remove tool on the Symantec website everything worked fine again. Thanks for your help

Dont know what to do

The error report annoyance is easy. Go to control panel and click system. Click advanced and change the reporting options.

About your trojan: first try to clean it. Go to: trendmicro.com and find housecall. Let the system do its work for 3 hours. Also, use Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html. It is free and it has an immunize feature which should be updated regularly. Install a good antivirus program and make sure it is up to date. Some good ones: CA, Norton-Symantec (just the antivirus), AVG and Clamwin set to quarantine as a backup.

Switch to FireFox as a browser at mozilla.org. It is less likely to pick up a virus/trojan. Oh, and never click on anything that you don't know about or understand.

If you need to use the disk, be aware that it will wipe out anything you've put on the computer. If you want to go ahead, then use explorer (right click start and then explore). Find your CD drive. Click either autorun or an .exe file which should be evident. Be sure you have your Windows code before you begin. It should be on a sticker on the bottom of the machine.

Don't worry about the cores or the registry cleaning.
