Hi,

Remove the jet screws and take apart the carburetors to clean it.The small carburetors the problem is the dirty old fuel will get harden and get sucked in the screen of the carburetors. The gas will evaporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carburetors. If your machine runs in half choke then you have to clean the carburetor.Prime the carburetor and blow compressed air into it to blow out all the block in the fuel line.It will remove the blockage remove out of the jets.If the mower is old then buy new carburetor. In some cases diaphragm cause it to be hard to crank so you have to replace it.

post a comment for further assistance.
Thank you for using fixya have a nice day:-)

Gas Trimmer will not stay started

Many times with a gas mix, after sitting for a while, the mix separates and gums up the carb. Taking the carb off and soaking it overnight in a parts or carb cleaner and running carb cleaner through the tank and gas lines will cure this.

Why do i have to run my 96 polaris 400 2x4 atv in half choke when i ride

If you haven't taken that carb apart and cleaned it in awhile - more than likely your jets (what's used to pick the gas up out of the bottom of the carb (the bowl) are clogged up. You can pick up a can of carburetor cleaner with a wire basket inside from any major parts store specifically for carburetors to soak in. The size of a paint can & around $20. Soak the carb in that for awhile after disassembling, make sure none of your ports are clogged - air compressor gun or you can also use keyboard cleaner - air dusters. You want to verify that air can pass through all those ports properly and blowing air through them is how you do it. Carb does need to be completely disassembled to do this. The jets in the carb suck up fuel due to the vacuum the engine creates turning over. Once it starts spinning - it builds up a little suction and everything is fine. When the jets start to clog - one of the ways to force the carb to pull harder is to work the choke. The only thing that choke is doing is operating the butterfly. When the choke is on - the butterfly closes. Making all of that suction stay right there in the carb. Once the bike starts to warm up - you release the choke - and the butterfly will open - allowing more air into the system. You're running at half choke - butterfly half closed - to force those jets to pull harder. If they were clear? No need to run at half choke. I have a Tomos a35 Sprint and I put a 70cc cylinder jug on it, a techno circuit pipe and I have a new carb. I up jetted it to a #58 and it starts only when the choke is down, once I take the choke off it...

You need to adjust the idle 1st.Main jet #58 is just for wide open throttle. Start by turning air screw all the way in "gently" till it stops, and back it out 1 and a half turns. Back out idle screw until slide is closed " not touching slide" . Turn until just contacts slide plus 1 full turn in opening slide. Start it up with the choke on and turn the air screw slowly in or out and slowly move the choke off till you can get it to run with the choke off. Than adjust idle screw " the one that moves the slide up and down to set the RPM. If you cant get her to idle with the choke off and the carb is air tight on the intake manifold. Carb might be to big. If you can get her to idle but it runs ruff I will try to help you tune the carb further. Good luck.

My honda vtx 1300 will not run with choke all the way in but will run with the choke half way in. what is the problem?

If your bike will only run with the choke half way out it's starving for feul. You have a clogged jet. By choking the bike you cut off the air and allow more feul to run through the carb.

Poulan ppd350 starts fine but I have to put choke on half way to run

Fuel starvation, start with simple stuff first, reolace the fuel filter in the tank, check the fuel hoses up to the carb for splits, cracks or signs of leaking, if no better there is dirt in the carb itself.

32 cc string trimmer will not run

It sounds like you need to adjust the fuel mixture screw in the carb. To do this, while it is running adjust the screw in either direction until it runs properly without the choke.

Homelite gas trimmer will not run without half choke and throttle

You need to disassemble the carb. and spray with carb. cleaner. If you need tips on how to do this, just let me know. You may need a new carb. kit as well, but we won't know that until you first perform the first step, or if the carb. parts are more than 3 years old. If they are, then go ahead and buy the carb. kit and replace the parts.
